Ripple Custody Adds Canton Network Asset Support
Ripple Custody version 1.43 adds support for Canton Coin (CC) and CIP-56 tokens on the Canton Network, allowing institutions to hold and transfer these assets through the platform. The October 5 update brings Canton assets under Ripple Custody’s existing policy controls and audit trail, with options for transfer pre-approvals and two-step transfers. Institutions can connect through a validator they operate or obtain from a node operator. Signing keys are managed through clients’ hardware security modules (HSMs) or key management systems (KMS), and the new functionality is currently available through API access only. The expansion takes Ripple Custody beyond XRPL-based assets, but does not establish that Canton uses XRP, XRPL or RLUSD, or that Canton and XRPL are interoperable. For traders, it signals growing institutional demand for multi-network custody and tokenization infrastructure, rather than a direct change to the supported tokens’ fundamentals.
Neutral
The update is an infrastructure and product expansion, not a change to the supply, utility or adoption metrics of Canton Coin, XRP or RLUSD. Ripple Custody’s new Canton support may gradually make it easier for institutions to custody and transfer CC and CIP-56 assets, but access is currently API-only, so any near-term effect on trading demand is likely limited. The announcement also does not establish a technical or economic link between Canton and XRP or XRPL. In the short term, traders may react to the institutional adoption signal, but the news alone offers no clear catalyst for a sustained price move in the named cryptocurrencies. Over the longer term, broader custody support could help institutional participation in Canton assets if usage grows; that outcome would depend on actual client adoption and network activity, not the integration announcement by itself. The expected direct price impact is therefore neutral.
