Robinhood Crypto Prediction Contracts May Surpass Sports

Robinhood CEO Vlad Tenev says crypto prediction contracts are gaining share and could overtake sports contracts as the company’s largest prediction-market category within several years. Robinhood’s prediction-market revenue rose more than tenfold year on year to $156 million in the second quarter of 2026. Contract trading volume reached 4.7 billion in August, about 15 times the level recorded in August 2025. The company uses Kalshi’s infrastructure and provides related services through Rothera, a joint venture with Susquehanna. Robinhood has also invested in Crypto.com and its prediction-market subsidiary, OG.com. Competitors including CME, Coinbase and Polymarket are expanding in event-based trading. The growth of crypto prediction contracts points to rising retail demand for event-driven trading. However, the reports do not disclose crypto contract volumes, settlement details or regulatory conditions. For crypto traders, this is an adoption and competition signal rather than a direct catalyst for cryptocurrency prices. The potential effect on the wider crypto market is therefore limited in the short term.
Neutral
The news is neutral for cryptocurrency prices because it concerns the expansion of prediction-market products rather than changes to crypto supply, network activity, liquidity or institutional flows. In the short term, stronger crypto prediction-market activity could increase retail attention and trading engagement, but it does not directly create buying pressure for any specific cryptocurrency. It may also divert some speculative capital from spot and derivatives markets. Over the longer term, competition among Robinhood, Kalshi, Coinbase, Polymarket and other platforms could improve access to event-based crypto trading and support broader market adoption. Regulatory uncertainty, unclear settlement mechanisms and the lack of disclosed crypto contract volumes limit the strength of this signal. Historical reactions to platform-expansion announcements are usually concentrated in the relevant company or sector and rarely produce sustained price moves in the underlying cryptocurrency without evidence of new capital inflows. The expected impact on cryptocurrency prices is therefore neutral.
