Robinhood Prediction Markets Outearn Crypto
Robinhood’s prediction markets generated $173 million in third-quarter 2026 revenue, surpassing cryptocurrency transaction revenue of $120 million. Crypto revenue fell 55% year over year, but the company’s total revenue reached a record $1.42 billion as other businesses grew.
Prediction-market revenue rose from $27 million in the third quarter of 2025 to $173 million, alongside a record 16.4 billion contracts traded. Robinhood launched the service in 2025 through a partnership with Kalshi. The company says contract volume is not the same as revenue, which also depends on trading activity and transaction arrangements.
Options revenue climbed 31% to $399 million, while net interest revenue reached $415 million. Robinhood Gold subscriptions increased 34% to 5.2 million, and platform assets rose to $396 billion. Despite record revenue, net income fell 14% to $476 million. The shift shows that prediction markets are becoming a major revenue source for Robinhood, though their dependence on trading activity and regulatory uncertainty means they may not eliminate volatility or speculative risks.
Neutral
The report has limited direct implications for crypto prices: it describes Robinhood’s revenue mix rather than a change in crypto market fundamentals, token supply or institutional demand. The 55% drop in Robinhood’s crypto transaction revenue highlights how exchange income can weaken when trading participation cools, a pattern seen during past downturns in crypto activity. However, it does not by itself establish that the broader market is entering a downturn.
In the short term, traders may view the results as evidence that retail trading interest is shifting toward prediction markets. That could affect expectations for Robinhood’s business and related trading activity, but the figures do not indicate an immediate effect on Bitcoin or other digital-asset prices. Prediction-market growth could also bring regulatory headlines, particularly around event and sports-related contracts, adding uncertainty for the company.
Over the longer term, diversification across prediction markets, options, subscriptions and interest income may make Robinhood less dependent on crypto cycles. But prediction markets and options are also sensitive to customer activity and can carry speculative and regulatory risks. The record revenue alongside lower net income further suggests that growth does not automatically translate into stronger profitability. Overall, the news is neutral for the crypto market: it is relevant to trading-platform competition and retail behavior, but offers no clear directional signal for digital-asset prices.
