Stablecoin Transfers Hit $891B as Adoption Expands
Stablecoin transfers reached $891 billion in Q3 2026, up fourfold from $216 billion in Q1 2023, according to Coinbase and The Block Pro Research. Stablecoin supply, by contrast, rose just 0.4% year to date to $305 billion, suggesting increased use of existing tokens rather than comparable supply growth.
Organic stablecoin transfers averaged more than $400 million an hour in Q3. About 73% of screened transfer volume from July 2025 to July 2026 took place outside US banking hours, underscoring the role of stablecoins in round-the-clock payments and settlement. The report estimates a $200 USDC transfer on Base costs about 86% less than a traditional banking transfer. Seven of the ten largest US banks have tested stablecoins or tokenized deposits.
The report projects quarterly adjusted stablecoin volume could reach about $1.5 trillion by the end of 2027 if growth continues. Coinbase has a commercial interest in stablecoin adoption, so the projection is not guaranteed. The figures point to expanding payment use, but do not by themselves signal an immediate price move in USDC or the broader crypto market.
Neutral
The report points to growing stablecoin use, lower transfer costs and increasing bank experimentation, which may support the long-term utility of USDC and stablecoin infrastructure. However, these adoption indicators do not directly change USDC’s dollar peg or establish a near-term catalyst for its market price. In the short term, traders may view the figures as evidence of stronger payment activity, but USDC generally trades around its peg rather than responding like a volatile asset. Over the longer term, wider adoption could strengthen demand for stablecoin services, while the projected transfer growth remains uncertain and is not a direct price forecast. The likely price impact on USDC is therefore neutral.
