Standard Chartered Launches RLUSD Custody, Plans Collateral Integration
Standard Chartered has launched institutional custody for Ripple USD (RLUSD) on the XRP Ledger through its Dubai International Financial Centre branch, which is regulated by the Dubai Financial Services Authority. The service is available to eligible clients, marking a step forward in institutional access to RLUSD.
The bank is also working with Ripple and LMAX Group on a proposed collateral-mirroring model. It could allow eligible RLUSD held in custody to be reflected as collateral at a trading venue without transferring the tokens there, potentially reducing the need to move assets between custodians and platforms.
That RLUSD collateral integration is not live. It remains subject to documentation, testing, approvals and jurisdictional conditions, with no launch date announced. The custody service is operational, but acceptance of RLUSD as trading collateral is not confirmed. In the earlier report, XRP was quoted at $1.38, down 2.5% on the day and below the cited $1.40 support level. The development may support longer-term institutional adoption, but it does not by itself establish near-term demand for RLUSD or XRP.
Neutral
The news is neutral for RLUSD’s price. Institutional custody can improve access and confidence in RLUSD over time, while the proposed collateral model could make the stablecoin more useful to trading firms if it receives approval and goes live. However, custody is not the same as confirmed collateral acceptance, and the integration remains subject to documentation, testing and regulatory conditions. No launch date or evidence of immediate trading demand has been reported. As a stablecoin, RLUSD is designed to track the US dollar, so greater adoption would more directly affect its utility and circulation than its target price. Short-term traders may therefore see limited price implications, while longer-term market attention will depend on whether the collateral arrangement becomes operational and attracts institutional use. The earlier report’s XRP price decline is relevant market context, but it does not establish that this RLUSD custody announcement caused the move.
