Stellar RWAs Top $4.1B, but DeFi Use Remains Low

Stellar’s tokenized real-world assets (RWAs) exceeded $4.1 billion by the end of Q3 2026, up 36% quarter over quarter and 548% year over year, according to a RedStone report. Yet only about 0.1% of the assets—measured against a reported $3.56 billion RWA figure—are used as collateral in decentralized finance (DeFi). Stellar’s DeFi total value locked is estimated at $224 million to $259 million. Spiko is the largest named issuer on the network, with about $1.55 billion in tokenized assets. Franklin Templeton’s BENJI ecosystem has roughly $546 million, while Ondo has around $535 million. The report cites valuation reliability, market depth and compliance concerns as barriers to using institutional RWAs in permissionless lending. Stellar also recorded $25.1 billion in stablecoin volume in Q3, a 121% quarterly increase. The Depository Trust & Clearing Corporation (DTCC) plans to connect its tokenization service to Stellar in the first half of 2027, potentially bringing tokenized Treasuries and other financial instruments to the network. Traders will be watching RWA collateral use, DeFi TVL and progress on the DTCC connection.
Neutral
The news is neutral for the crypto market overall. Stellar’s RWA value and stablecoin volume are growing quickly, and a planned DTCC connection in 2027 could improve institutional visibility and create new opportunities for tokenized assets. These developments may support long-term interest in the Stellar ecosystem and, indirectly, demand for XLM if network activity and liquidity translate into sustained use. However, the report shows that only about 0.1% of Stellar’s RWAs are being used as DeFi collateral. That gap suggests headline asset growth has not yet translated into substantial on-chain lending demand. Pricing, liquidity and compliance hurdles could limit near-term adoption. The reported DeFi TVL range also provides no clear evidence of a corresponding surge in DeFi activity. In the short term, traders may react to the growth figures and DTCC announcement with increased attention to XLM and Stellar-related assets, but the data does not establish a direct catalyst for a lasting price move. As with past institutional tokenization announcements, market impact may fade unless concrete launches, liquidity and transaction activity follow. Over the longer term, rising collateral use, higher DeFi TVL and progress toward DTCC’s 2027 integration would strengthen the adoption case; delays or continued low utilization could temper expectations. Overall, the figures point to ecosystem momentum but also a substantial gap between tokenized asset supply and DeFi use.
