Strategy Expands Buyback Cap as Bitcoin Buying Continues
Strategy raised its preferred securities buyback authorization by $1 billion to $3 billion, covering STRC, STRF, STRK and STRD. During the week ended October 18, it spent $193.1 million repurchasing 1,938,780 STRC shares—nearly nine times the $22.1 million spent on Bitcoin. About $1.16 billion remains available, but the authorization does not require further purchases.
Strategy also bought 267 BTC at an average price of about $82,900, bringing its holdings to 848,517 BTC. The company reported a total Bitcoin acquisition cost of about $64.02 billion, or an average of $75,446 per coin. Most of the latest Bitcoin purchase was funded by selling MSTR shares, while the STRC buyback used existing cash.
As of October 18, Strategy held $4.83 billion in a USD Reserve and $447.3 million in USD Cash. The latest figures show Strategy continues Bitcoin accumulation, although its weekly preferred securities buyback was much larger than its BTC purchase—a capital-allocation and liquidity signal traders may monitor.
Neutral
The direct price impact on BTC is likely neutral. Strategy added 267 BTC, which provides a modest demand signal, but the purchase is small relative to its existing holdings and the wider Bitcoin market. The much larger STRC buyback does not itself represent a sale of BTC, so it does not create direct selling pressure on the cryptocurrency. However, traders may watch whether the buybacks affect Strategy’s available cash or its pace of future Bitcoin purchases. In the short term, the disclosure may prompt limited sentiment-driven reactions, but it does not materially change BTC supply or demand. Over the longer term, continued accumulation could support sentiment if it persists; a sustained slowdown in purchases or signs of liquidity strain could weaken that support. The available figures alone do not establish either trend, supporting a neutral classification.
