Sui v1.82.2 Updates Protocol Fees and Node Tools
Mysten Labs’ Sui testnet v1.82.2 release brings protocol, node and developer-tool updates. Protocol version 139 reduces the non-refundable storage fee from 1% to 0.01% of the storage rebate; protocol version 138 applies the same reduction on mainnet. Version 139 also adds a devnet-only forwarding-address feature and charges non-system package inputs 1% of the per-byte object-read cost.
The Sui update adds ML-DSA-65 signature support, an optional gRPC header for reads consistent up to a specified checkpoint, and improvements to consensus replay and GraphQL subscriptions. It also changes randomness recovery and storage-cost charging, and removes the JSON-RPC service from fullnodes. The Sui CLI faucet now supports testnet as well as devnet, with proof-of-work challenges that may delay payouts. The release is focused on infrastructure and developers; it does not announce a change to SUI’s supply or a direct token-market catalyst.
Neutral
The update is primarily a technical release and does not change SUI’s token supply or introduce a direct demand catalyst, so its immediate price impact is likely limited. In the short term, traders may respond to the storage-fee reduction or improvements to network and developer infrastructure, but such upgrades do not by themselves establish a sustained price trend. Over the longer term, lower storage fees and stronger tooling could support ecosystem activity and user adoption if developers and applications make use of the changes. That potential benefit is indirect and will depend on observable network usage, application growth and broader market conditions. On the information provided, a neutral classification is most appropriate.
