Sui Enables Protocol-Level Gasless Stablecoin Transfers, $65B in 5 Days
Sui has activated protocol-level gasless stablecoin transfers, setting peer-to-peer stablecoin transfer gas cost to zero. The feature went live on May 20, 2026 via an infrastructure-native design, using a new “Address Balances” system so users don’t need to hold SUI for fees.
Supported stablecoins at launch include USDC, USDsui, suiUSDe, USDY, FDUSD, AUSD and USDB (Fireblocks backs the rollout). Early adoption already shows scale: in ~5 days after launch, Sui processed nearly $65B in stablecoin transfers, and since early 2024 cumulative stablecoin volume has exceeded $2.27T. After the announcement, SUI was reported up about 5%.
For traders, the near-term angle is clear: gasless stablecoin transfers can lift activity and liquidity on Sui, potentially improving onboarding and real usage metrics. The key watchpoint is sustainability—moving fees from users to the protocol may change congestion behavior and long-run validator economics, which could drive future volatility if network demand rises without corresponding incentives.
Bullish
Bullish in the near term for SUI because protocol-level gasless stablecoin transfers can immediately reduce friction, boosting stablecoin throughput, liquidity, and measurable activity on-chain (already reflected in ~$65B transfers within ~5 days and >$2.27T cumulative volume since early 2024). The reported ~5% SUI jump supports early market optimism. However, traders should manage risk: by shifting costs from users to the protocol, Sui may face longer-term questions around congestion control and validator economics. If usage accelerates faster than incentives scale, sentiment could reverse. Net effect remains positive for SUI while early traction persists.
