THORChain Activates Native Zcash Swaps in Soft Launch
THORChain has moved from monitoring the Zcash blockchain and opening a ZEC liquidity pool to activating native Zcash swaps. Users can now exchange ZEC for assets such as BTC, ETH and stablecoins across supported blockchains without wrapped tokens or a centralized exchange. The launch follows THORChain’s 3.20 update, which added Zcash and Monero support and brought the network’s supported blockchains to 14; earlier development work added Zcash-specific transaction handling and price-oracle data.
The ZEC pool has more than $50,000 in liquidity and remains in a soft-launch phase while performance is monitored. It may support trades in the five-figure range, but larger orders could face greater slippage and slower settlement as liquidity is still shallow. THORChain says protocol-owned liquidity may be added when the pool meets its fee-to-depth threshold. Traders should watch liquidity growth and execution conditions: native Zcash swaps broaden access to cross-chain trading, but the launch alone does not establish a material price impact for ZEC.
Neutral
The launch is a positive development for Zcash’s utility: native swaps on THORChain give ZEC holders another self-custodial route to trade across blockchains. However, the pool is in a soft launch with just over $50,000 in liquidity, and larger orders may encounter substantial slippage or slower settlement. These constraints limit the near-term effect on ZEC demand and trading conditions. Short-term price action is therefore more likely to depend on broader market sentiment and actual swap activity than on the announcement alone. Over the longer term, growing liquidity and sustained use could improve ZEC’s accessibility and support its utility, but the launch does not guarantee increased demand or a lasting price rise. The available information does not indicate a direct material effect on ZEC’s market price, so the expected impact is neutral.
