Tokenized Assets Reach $400B, but Only $39B Is Active

Evernorth’s 2026 Tokenization Report estimates that tokenized real-world assets have reached about $400 billion across blockchain networks in roughly 18 months. However, only around $39 billion is used for on-chain trading, settlement or collateral; most tokenized assets function mainly as ownership records. The report says tokenized value on the XRP Ledger (XRPL) rose from $1.76 billion in February 2026 to about $5.05 billion by October 20. Regulated investment products account for roughly 90% of that value. Evernorth links the growth partly to XRPL permissioned domains, launched in February, and reports that stablecoin and fiat-backed token pairs made up an average 86% of XRPL decentralised-exchange trading in 2026, up from about 10% in 2024. The findings point to institutional adoption of tokenized assets, but Evernorth has a financial interest in the XRPL: it holds about 473 million XRP. The report’s figures therefore warrant context, and the XRPL’s total remains a small share of the estimated global market.
Neutral
The report offers a long-term adoption signal, but its immediate trading implications are limited. The headline $400 billion figure includes assets that largely serve as ownership records; only about $39 billion supports active on-chain use. That gap tempers claims that tokenization has already created deep, liquid markets. For XRP, the reported rise in XRPL tokenized value and the increased share of stablecoin- and fiat-backed trading pairs could support a positive narrative around institutional use and liquidity infrastructure. Traders may treat these figures as a modest sentiment catalyst, particularly if independently verifiable on-chain activity confirms the trend. But the report does not establish that tokenized asset growth directly drives XRP demand or price appreciation. Similar announcements about institutional blockchain adoption have often produced short-lived attention unless followed by measurable increases in transactions, liquidity, or real-world integrations. In the short term, broader crypto-market conditions, XRP trading volume, and any confirmation of the reported activity are likely to matter more than the report alone. In the longer term, sustained growth in active tokenized assets could strengthen the case for XRPL as an institutional settlement venue. Risks include the limited size of the XRPL market relative to the global total, the distinction between recorded ownership and usable liquidity, and Evernorth’s disclosed holdings of about 473 million XRP, which create an interest to highlight XRPL progress. Overall, the news is constructive for the tokenization narrative but insufficient on its own to justify a bullish market classification.
