US Flash PMI Shows Strong Growth and Rising Inflation

The US Flash PMI signalled continued strong economic growth in October, even as its headline Composite Output Index eased to 57.6 from 58.4 in September. The survey readings were consistent with GDP growth at an annualised rate of about 5%. At the same time, supply-chain bottlenecks worsened and order backlogs grew. These conditions gave companies greater scope to pass higher costs on to customers, pointing to further inflation pressure. The US Flash PMI therefore showed an economy still expanding rapidly, but with a risk that persistent inflation could influence interest-rate expectations.
Bearish
The report does not directly discuss cryptocurrencies, but it may matter to crypto traders through its implications for inflation and interest rates. Strong US growth, worsening supply constraints and firms’ ability to pass on higher costs could reinforce concerns that inflation will remain persistent. If markets respond by pricing in tighter monetary policy or higher rates for longer, that could weigh on risk-sensitive assets, including Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies, as higher yields can reduce demand for speculative investments. Similar reactions have occurred when strong economic data or persistent inflation have led traders to expect tighter Federal Reserve policy: crypto prices have often faced pressure alongside other risk assets, while bond yields and the US dollar strengthened. In the short term, traders may watch inflation data, Federal Reserve comments, Treasury yields and dollar movements for confirmation; the PMI reading alone does not establish a policy shift. Over the longer term, sustained growth could also support broader risk appetite, but the inflation and rate outlook is likely to be the more immediate market concern. The bearish classification is therefore a cautious assessment, not a prediction of a definite price move.
