Microsoft Previews Windows Feature for AI-Based Media Transcription

Microsoft is testing a new Windows feature named ’Intelligent Media Search’ that transcribes audio and video files into text, which can then be processed by AI models. This feature will allow users to conduct text searches within media files and could be especially useful for content creators with large media libraries. Currently, the feature is being trialed with select Windows Insiders, meaning it may not be available in future public versions. However, privacy advocates have raised concerns about the potential reach of this feature in conjunction with Microsoft’s upcoming ’Recall’ feature, which has sparked debate about mandatory data tracking. Both Intelligent Media Search and Recall will reportedly be optional features.
