Winklevoss Zcash ETF Proposes 0.25% Fee

Winklevoss Asset Services filed a preliminary S-1 with the US Securities and Exchange Commission on October 6 for a proposed spot Zcash ETF. The fund would hold ZEC directly and, if approved, trade on Nasdaq under the ticker WINK. Its proposed annual fee is 0.25%, compared with 2.5% for Grayscale’s Zcash ETF, ZCSH. Gemini Trust Company is named as custodian, while Winklevoss Capital Fund has expressed non-binding interest in buying up to $100 million in shares. The twins promoted the proposal at Token2049 in Singapore. The filing is not SEC approval: the registration and listing steps must be completed before trading can begin. Grayscale’s ZCSH launched in August 2026 and reportedly recorded more than $233 million in first-month inflows, with assets nearing $890 million. If approved, the lower-cost Zcash ETF could widen access to ZEC and intensify competition, though the related sponsor, custodian and potential buyer connections may raise concentration questions.
Neutral
The filing is a potential positive for ZEC because a spot ETF could make the asset more accessible through brokerage accounts, while the proposed 0.25% fee may help it compete for investor demand. The reported inflows and assets in Grayscale’s ZCSH also suggest existing interest in regulated Zcash exposure. However, this proposal remains unapproved, so it does not yet create a direct new source of demand. In the short term, ETF headlines could prompt speculative trading, but price moves may be limited or reversed if traders take profits or regulatory progress stalls. Over the longer term, approval and sustained inflows could support ZEC demand and liquidity; rejection, delays or weak adoption would reduce that potential. Given the uncertain regulatory path and the lack of a confirmed investment commitment, the overall expected price impact on ZEC is neutral.
