USD1 to Join Mesh Merchants This Quarter as WLFI Eyes Issuance
World Liberty Financial (WLFI) has partnered with payments provider Mesh to bring its USD1 stablecoin to Mesh’s merchant network, with rollout planned for this quarter. The integration would let USD1 holders pay participating online businesses. WLFI co-founder Zak Folkman said the company is also discussing the technology with large Web2 businesses.
Issued by BitGo, USD1 is backed by cash, US government money market funds and other cash equivalents. Its market capitalisation was about $4.45 billion, and it is designed to maintain a $1 value. WLFI CEO Zach Witkoff said WLFI may take over USD1 issuance if it receives a national trust bank charter. The US Office of the Comptroller of the Currency conditionally approved the application in August, while Senator Elizabeth Warren has raised concerns about potential conflicts of interest. Broader merchant acceptance could increase USD1’s utility, but the rollout and charter remain important developments to watch.
Neutral
The news is neutral for USD1’s price because the stablecoin is designed to track the US dollar, so merchant integration is more likely to affect its utility and circulation than its target value. In the short term, the planned Mesh rollout and discussions with larger Web2 businesses could attract attention and increase expectations for payment use, but the impact depends on actual merchant participation and transaction volumes. Over the longer term, broader adoption could support USD1’s role in payments. However, the proposed change in issuer depends on WLFI receiving a national trust bank charter, and regulatory scrutiny may create uncertainty. Traders should therefore distinguish growth in USD1 usage from a change in its price peg; the available information does not point to a directional price move.
