Zebra 7.0.0 Prepares Zcash for the NU7 Upgrade

The Zcash Foundation has released Zebra 7.0.0, the first stable Zcash node software version to support the NU7 Mainnet upgrade. Mainnet operators must upgrade before block height 3,543,405, expected around 5 November, to stay on the correct consensus chain. The two reports describe the same release and planned upgrade; the later summary adds no new developments. NU7 will reduce target block times from 75 seconds to 25 seconds without changing daily ZEC issuance or the 21 million supply cap. It will allocate 60% of transaction fees to a reserve, while miners retain 40%; reserve-funded block rewards are planned for a later stage. New shielded-activity limits aim to increase Orchard capacity and reduce potential spam-related syncing demands on light wallets. Zebra 7.0.0 also improves syncing near the chain tip and addresses seven security advisories. The software automatically migrates the node database, but reverting to Zebra 6.x afterward requires a full resync. After activation, version 4 transactions will no longer be valid, leaving funds in the Sprout pool unspendable. The upgrade is a significant Zcash network and infrastructure change, but neither report indicates a direct price catalyst for ZEC.
Neutral
The release and NU7 are materially important for Zcash’s network operation, but the reports provide no direct signal of increased demand for ZEC or a change to its supply cap or daily issuance. Short term, the block-height deadline, required node upgrades and Sprout-pool spending restrictions may prompt operational adjustments and some trader attention, but do not by themselves establish a directional price catalyst. Longer term, faster target block times, fee allocation changes and improved capacity could affect network use and sentiment; their price impact will depend on adoption and usage rather than the announcement alone. Traders are likely to assess these developments alongside broader market conditions, liquidity and on-chain activity, so the expected direct price impact is neutral.
