A new AI startup, ZeroEyes, has been launched by veterans with special operations and intelligence backgrounds. The company has developed a gun detection system aimed at preventing terrorist attacks and school shootings in the U.S. Recently, after a tragic shooting on a Chicago train, the Chicago Transit Authority began installing ZeroEyes’ AI gun detection system on their trains. The system integrates with existing surveillance camera networks to detect potential gun threats by analyzing images and identifying possible firearms. Unlike face recognition systems, ZeroEyes focuses on detecting guns, identifying their appearance, model, and size. The system has been in use at Chicago’s Navy Pier for two years and is now being adopted in New York high schools to improve campus security, offering parents reassurance about their children’s safety. ZeroEyes’ approach of using AI to detect guns rather than human faces helps avoid issues related to wrongful identification and discrimination, presenting a model that could be useful globally.
