Zano Exploit Forces Rollback After Fake ZANO Minting

The Zano exploit exposed a Gateway Address validation flaw introduced in Hard Fork 6. The attacker paid only 100 ZANO, worth about $553 at the time, to register a gateway address and mint roughly 36.9 million counterfeit ZANO over two events on 29 August and 25 September. The attacker also created about 1.8 trillion fUSD stablecoins. The counterfeit assets behaved like legitimate tokens and could be transferred or traded normally. Zano said the incident potentially affected 117,941 outputs and 65,301 transactions. The project rolled back about one month of blockchain history from block 3,833,000, disabling Gateway Addresses and removing the illicit supply. It said the total ZANO supply and issuance schedule would remain unchanged. The rollback also reverses legitimate transactions made during the affected period. Zano plans to restore user balances using developer funds, team members’ personal funds and external donations. Exchanges and payment providers are expected to replay or reimburse affected deposits and withdrawals. Zano said limited liquidity may have prevented the attacker from selling the counterfeit tokens at scale. The Zano exploit is bearish for ZANO in the short term because it undermines confidence in token supply integrity, gateway security and blockchain immutability. Traders should monitor exchange reopening notices, liquidity, wallet balances, compensation progress and the project’s root-cause analysis. Longer term, confidence may depend on whether Zano delivers a credible security fix and completes the rollback recovery.

Bitcoin Price Tests $84,000 as ETF Inflows Reverse

Bitcoin price has retreated after failing to hold gains above $87,000, falling about 1.7% in 24 hours to roughly $84,575. The decline follows a pullback from the September high near $87,400 and places Bitcoin near the key $84,012 Fibonacci retracement level. Bitcoin price support is concentrated around $82,000–$83,000, with a key short-term level near $82,362–$82,600. A sustained break below $82,000 could weaken the bullish structure and expose the $80,900–$81,000 area, close to the 20-day moving average. Holding support could allow a rebound towards $85,000–$85,500. A move above the recent $87,220–$87,400 high could open a path towards $88,000–$90,000, although substantial sell orders remain overhead. Technical momentum has weakened. The daily RSI is still positive at 60.69 but has fallen below its moving average. The four-hour Awesome Oscillator has printed a red bar, while the four-hour ADX previously showed a weak trend. Daily Chaikin Money Flow remains slightly positive. CoinGlass liquidation clusters around $83,500, $85,100, $86,000–$86,400 and $87,700 point to potential volatility on both sides of the market. US spot Bitcoin ETF demand has also cooled. Funds recorded about $2.39 billion in net inflows during the September 21–25 trading week, but later posted a combined $51.5 million net outflow from September 28–30 after daily inflows had approached $1 billion on September 21. Higher Treasury yields and volatile oil prices added to macroeconomic pressure. Traders are now focused on whether Bitcoin can defend $84,012 and the lower $82,000 support zone. The outlook remains range-bound unless price breaks key support or resistance.

Citi Raises Bitcoin Target to $113,400 as ETF Inflows Recover

Citi has raised its 12-month Bitcoin price target to $113,400 from below $82,000, implying about 35% upside from Bitcoin’s current price near $83,900. The bank cited stronger crypto market activity, renewed US spot Bitcoin ETF inflows, improving macroeconomic conditions, clearer regulation and rising institutional demand. Citi expects about $5 billion to flow into crypto markets over the next year as financial advisers and brokerages increase Bitcoin allocations. Although the US Senate’s failure to advance the CLARITY Act initially pressured sentiment, subsequent announcements from the SEC and CFTC helped limit the impact. The bank also raised its target for Strategy, a major corporate Bitcoin holder, to $240 from $136 and maintained a buy rating. Strategy shares have recovered to about $160 after falling below $100 during the summer. Citi estimates that Bitcoin appreciation could generate 34% of the company’s projected upside, while a higher market-to-net-asset-value premium could contribute another 16%. Earlier market signals also pointed to Bitcoin holding higher support levels after leveraged positions were cleared. Ethereum’s Glamsterdam upgrade is scheduled to reach the Sepolia testnet on 6 October, adding parallelised processing and enhanced access lists. Traders should monitor Bitcoin ETF flows, institutional accumulation, derivatives positioning, Federal Reserve policy and regulatory developments. Strategy provides more leveraged and volatile Bitcoin exposure, while the wider market remains sensitive to macroeconomic shocks.

Stand With Crypto Expands US Election Endorsements

Stand With Crypto has expanded its bipartisan US midterm election endorsements after the Senate failed to advance the CLARITY Act. The bill received 49 votes, below the 60 needed to proceed. The Coinbase-backed group supports more than 30 House members who backed digital asset market structure legislation. It has also endorsed Republican candidates Jon Husted in Ohio and Ashley Hinson in Iowa, alongside Democrat Chris Pappas in New Hampshire. Additional House endorsements include Republican Mariannette Miller-Meeks and Democrat Shomari Figures. Stand With Crypto plans advertising in six House races, including Democrat Don Davis’s contest in North Carolina. The group says its more than three million supporters will consider candidates’ crypto voting records. Its campaign is bipartisan and focuses on mobilising voters rather than directly funding candidates. The endorsements may influence future US crypto regulation, while wider industry political spending has approached $200 million for the 2026 election cycle. The Ohio contest is particularly important because a return by crypto sceptic Sherrod Brown could affect the Senate Banking Committee. However, the political developments are unlikely to create an immediate trading catalyst for Bitcoin or Ether.

Bitcoin Price Pulls Back Below 86,000 USDT After Recovery

Bitcoin price fell below 83,000 USDT on OKX on 29 September 2026, trading at 82,991.1 USDT with a 24-hour decline of 0.08%. The move initially suggested limited selling pressure and left 83,000 USDT as a key short-term support or resistance level. By 2 October, Bitcoin price had recovered above that earlier level but slipped below 86,000 USDT, reaching 85,997.2 USDT. Its 24-hour gain narrowed to 2.24%, indicating possible profit-taking and weaker short-term momentum. Traders should watch whether BTC stabilises near 86,000 USDT or faces a sustained break lower. Volume, spot demand and derivatives positioning may help confirm the next move. The data does not yet confirm a broader trend reversal.

Illinois Digital Asset Tax Delay Awaits Court Approval

Illinois officials and crypto industry groups have asked a Sangamon County Circuit Court to delay the Digital Asset Tax by six months. The 0.2% tax was due to begin on 1 January 2027, but enforcement would move to 1 July 2027 if the judge approves the agreement. The Digital Asset Tax would apply to certain crypto purchases and transfers, with exchanges and digital asset brokers responsible for collection. Lawmakers estimate it could raise up to $60 million in 2027. The Digital Chamber and Illinois Blockchain Association argue that the tax is unconstitutional, may affect businesses and users outside Illinois, and could impose costs even when no investment gain is realised. Their legal challenge cites interstate commerce, due process, penalties, property-tax limits and federal protections for online commerce. A separate challenge is also being pursued by the Blockchain Association and Crypto Council for Innovation. The proposed Digital Asset Tax delay does not settle the case and will take effect only after a court order. Illinois must respond to the amended complaint by 13 November. For exchanges and traders, the delay reduces near-term compliance pressure but leaves significant regulatory uncertainty.

Bitcoin Rises from $84,000 to Above $85,000

Bitcoin rose above 84,000 USDT on OKX on 29 September 2026, reaching 84,007 USDT with a 1.01% 24-hour gain. By 2 October, Bitcoin had climbed above 85,000 USDT to 85,003.7 USDT, while maintaining the same daily gain. The move suggests modestly stronger buying momentum and a potential resistance breakout. Traders should watch whether Bitcoin can hold above 85,000 USDT and whether spot and derivatives volume increase. The reports provide no data on volume, funding rates, liquidations or a clear catalyst, so confirmation is needed before calling a sustained trend reversal. Continued Bitcoin strength could support broader crypto-market sentiment.

USD/JPY Holds Above 157.5 as Traders Watch Liquidity

USD/JPY rose above 157.5 to 157.511, gaining 0.1% over 24 hours, according to Gate data. The modest move shows continued US dollar strength against the Japanese yen but does not yet confirm a major breakout or a broader shift in foreign-exchange momentum. Crypto traders should monitor USD/JPY alongside the US dollar, Treasury yields and overall risk sentiment. Changes in USD/JPY can affect global liquidity and demand for risk assets, although this move provides no direct cryptocurrency catalyst.

Bitcoin ETFs Extend Inflows as Institutional Demand Returns

U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs recorded $66.19 million in net inflows on September 29, extending the Bitcoin ETF inflow streak to nine consecutive trading sessions. From September 17 to 29, the funds attracted about $3.08 billion, slightly above the $3.04 billion recorded during a similar nine-day streak in August. The broader rally included roughly $2.4 billion in inflows during the week ending September 25, the strongest weekly total since October 2025. September 21 saw the largest daily inflow, at nearly $999 million. BlackRock’s IBIT led weekly inflows with about $1.2 billion, followed by Fidelity’s FBTC at $702 million and ARK 21Shares’ ARKB at $295 million. The three funds accounted for more than 90% of weekly inflows. However, daily demand has weakened. Inflows fell from $999 million on September 21 to $66 million on September 29. Bitcoin traded near $84,400, about 1% higher on the day, but below its September high of roughly $87,350 and approximately one-third below its October 2025 record of $126,296. Since launching in January 2024, U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs have accumulated more than $57 billion in net inflows, with combined assets approaching $108 billion. The latest buying followed the Federal Reserve’s 25-basis-point rate increase on September 16, which lifted the policy rate to 3.75%-4%. Bitcoin had previously declined to about $75,000, while the funds posted roughly $746 million in outflows over two sessions. The nine-day Bitcoin ETF inflow streak supports institutional sentiment and could provide a price floor if sustained. Traders should watch whether inflows accelerate or reverse, as slowing demand may limit Bitcoin’s near-term upside. The current streak remains shorter than the 13-day record set in June 2025.

PEPE Holds Recovery Structure but Bearish Pennant Risks Drop

PEPE price initially climbed about 45% in seven days, reaching roughly $0.00000534 before retreating. It remained above the key breakout zone near $0.0000044, preserving a bullish recovery structure. However, momentum weakened as the 14-day RSI fell from overbought levels and the MACD turned less supportive. Elevated futures open interest and liquidations also increased the risk of sharp leveraged moves. By September 30, PEPE price had recovered to about $0.00000433, up 1.64% intraday, but remained below its September high above $0.0000053. The token stayed above its 20-day Bollinger midpoint at $0.00000402, with an RSI of 57.96. Weekly indicators remained constructive, as PEPE traded above its 20-week and 50-week moving averages and maintained a positive weekly MACD histogram. However, it was still below the 100-week average at $0.00000805. Short-term risks have become clearer. A bearish pennant on the four-hour chart places $0.0000041 as the key support. A break below it could expose $0.0000030, while liquidation pressure is concentrated near $0.00000416. A move above $0.0000047 would weaken the bearish setup and could support a retest of $0.00000502-$0.00000536. Overall, PEPE price retains a bullish longer-term recovery structure, but traders face bearish volatility risk around $0.0000041.

Metaplanet Defends Warrant Plan After Dilution Concerns

Metaplanet’s independent directors have defended the company’s Series 10 warrant plan after shareholders raised concerns about share dilution, executive compensation and corporate governance. They said management accepted significant financial risk when the rights were created during the company’s 2023 restructuring. The plan received 78.3% shareholder support excluding former majority shareholder EVO, while total support exceeded 98%. Metaplanet later ended the automatic adjustment mechanism and reset the warrant conversion ratio. The changes reduced the potential share pool by 41.1%, from about 319.46 million to 188.19 million shares. Metaplanet said the restructuring removed more than $220 million in potential warrant value and improved Bitcoin per fully diluted share by about 8.8%. The remaining warrants will vest in stages from 2029 to 2031 and carry a five-year lock-up. CEO Simon Gerovich recused himself from the review because he holds the affected rights. However, the board did not cancel the 64.032 million shares he received after exercising warrants in August; those shares remain locked until August 2031. Metaplanet shares closed at 286 yen on 30 September, up 1.78% on the day but down about 29% in 2026. The company reports holdings of 43,000 BTC and is preparing a new performance-linked executive compensation plan. For traders, Metaplanet remains a Bitcoin treasury exposure with significant dilution and governance risks. These issues may affect the company’s valuation and investor sentiment, although the direct impact on Bitcoin is likely limited.

Cboe Extends SPX Options Rights to 2051, Eyes Tokenization

Cboe Global Markets and S&P Dow Jones Indices have extended Cboe’s exclusive license to list S&P 500 Index (SPX) options through 2051. The agreement secures Cboe’s long-term position in SPX options, while allowing both companies to explore new products, including tokenized options. No tokenized options product, launch date, trading venue or regulatory filing has been announced. Cboe said the partnership provides continuity for customers and flexibility to respond to blockchain-based financial technology. The companies have worked together since 1983. SPX options averaged 3.9 million contracts per day in 2025, up 25% from 2024. Annual volume reached a record 970.6 million contracts, marking the fourth consecutive yearly record. The strong SPX options market gives Cboe a substantial base for any future tokenized derivatives initiative. S&P Dow Jones Indices has already licensed the S&P 500 for blockchain-related products. Centrifuge launched the tokenized SPXA index fund on Base in September 2025, while Trade[XYZ] received approval to list an S&P 500 perpetual contract on Hyperliquid for eligible investors outside the United States. For crypto traders, the SPX options agreement is mainly a long-term institutional adoption signal, not an immediate cryptocurrency price catalyst. Traders should monitor regulatory filings, product launches and liquidity before assigning significant value to tokenized options.

Tether Freezes $550M in Iran-Linked USDT Amid Probe

Tether said it helped US authorities freeze nearly $550 million in Iran-linked USDT during 2026. More than $344 million was frozen across two TRON addresses in April, followed by over $130 million across four TRON wallets in July. The addresses were added to the US Treasury’s sanctions list for Iran’s central bank, which Washington links to the IRGC Qods Force and Hezbollah. The disclosure came as Democratic staff on the US Senate Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations reviewed 846 Iran- and proxy-linked wallets. Reuters reported that 84% of those wallets used USDT exclusively or almost exclusively. Senator Richard Blumenthal’s inquiry is seeking Tether’s records on sanctions compliance, wallet freezes, suspicious-activity reporting and dealings with Iranian exchanges including Nobitex, Wallex, Bitpin and Ramzinex. The exchanges were sanctioned by the Office of Foreign Assets Control on 2 June 2026. Tether said the freezes followed information from US law enforcement and OFAC. It also reported more than 2,900 law-enforcement investigations, over $4.9 billion in frozen digital assets globally and more than $22 million in USDT frozen through cases referred by Israel’s National Bureau for Counter Terror Financing. The figures do not show how much illicit value moved before the freezes: the USDT total reflects immobilised balances, while the 84% figure measures wallet reliance rather than transaction volume. For traders, the case highlights stablecoin compliance, issuer-controlled freezes and counterparty risk. It could increase scrutiny of USDT-linked activity and sanctioned exchanges, but it does not by itself prove a broad failure of Tether’s controls.

Citi and Coinbase Expand Stablecoin Payments

Citi and Coinbase are expanding stablecoin payments for corporate banking clients in the United States. Citi will provide merchant processing, banking, compliance and settlement services, while Coinbase will supply blockchain infrastructure and convert stablecoins into fiat currency. This allows merchants to accept stablecoin payments without managing wallets or holding crypto assets on their balance sheets. Coinbase business customers will also gain access to Coinbase Virtual Accounts, powered by Citi’s Virtual Account Wallet infrastructure. The accounts can support transfers between fiat and stablecoins. The service will be added to existing corporate payment networks rather than replace them, and Citi has not confirmed broad USDC adoption. The companies have not announced a launch date, fees, supported stablecoins or blockchain networks. The US rollout could improve institutional stablecoin adoption and connect merchants to a global user base of more than 150 million stablecoin holders. However, the immediate trading impact is likely limited until product details and transaction volumes emerge.

Bybit Adds Tokenized Fund Shares as Trading Collateral

Bybit announced a strategic collaboration with Franklin Templeton on September 28, allowing eligible institutional clients to use tokenized money-market fund shares as off-exchange collateral for crypto trading. Through ByCustody, clients can pledge Franklin Templeton’s BENJI tokens, which represent shares in the Franklin OnChain U.S. Government Money Fund, and receive USDT- or USDC-denominated trading credit on Bybit. The fund shares remain in external custody, are not converted into stablecoins or transferred to the exchange, and can continue generating yield while pledged. This makes tokenized fund shares useful as trading collateral, not only as investment assets. Franklin Templeton launched the fund in 2021 as the first US-registered mutual fund to use a public blockchain as its official recordkeeping system. The Benji platform reportedly held $1.98 billion in assets in April, while RWA.xyz later estimated about $669 million. BlackRock’s BUIDL remains the largest tokenized money-market fund, with roughly $2.2 billion and support from platforms including Crypto.com and Deribit. Bybit and Franklin Templeton also plan to offer tokenized investment products to Bybit Wallet users on Mantle, although details are limited. The companies have not disclosed credit limits, lending terms, collateral haircuts, valuation methods or liquidation rules. The service is restricted to eligible institutions. For crypto traders, tokenized fund collateral could improve institutional capital efficiency and stablecoin liquidity, but custody, valuation, stablecoin and liquidation risks remain. Tokenized fund shares are unlikely to create an immediate broad market price reaction.

BlackRock: Stablecoins Could Power AI Payments

BlackRock’s Digital Assets Research team says stablecoins could become the payment rails for autonomous AI agents. Its “The Machine-Native Economy” paper describes programmable, 24-hour digital money for machine-to-machine payments involving computing power, data, API access, software and other digital services. Traditional systems such as ACH and credit cards may be too slow, costly and dependent on intermediaries for these transactions. Stablecoin supply exceeded $300 billion in September 2026, while adjusted transaction volume surpassed $11 trillion in 2025. Stablecoin activity has grown by about 80% annually since 2020, compared with roughly 8.5% for ACH. However, current data does not prove that AI agents are already generating significant demand. Estimates suggest AI agents account for about 0.6% to 7.5% of activity on major payment protocols, while the broader figures include many types of transactions. BlackRock cites Coinbase’s x402 protocol as an example of automated stablecoin payments for online resources. Future adoption may favour stablecoins with stronger programmability, cross-chain interoperability and compliance features. USDT and USDC currently dominate volume, but specialised issuers could gain competition from AI-related payment use cases. The report also highlights tokenised computing capacity as a possible digital-asset category. Standardised claims on cloud capacity could eventually be traded, financed or used as collateral, although liquid markets, common standards and clear regulation are not yet in place. BlackRock cites estimates that Amazon, Microsoft and Google cloud revenue could reach about $1.1 trillion by 2030. For crypto traders, the report strengthens the long-term stablecoin and tokenised-infrastructure narrative. It does not announce an immediate product launch, investment or established AI-commerce market. Short-term price action is therefore more likely to depend on regulation, adoption data and broader crypto sentiment than on this report alone.

California Bans Officials From Issuing Memecoins

California Governor Gavin Newsom signed Assembly Bill 2409 on September 27, 2026, banning state and local public officials, as well as certain employees, from issuing memecoins. From January 1, 2027, digital-asset service providers serving California residents will also be barred from listing qualifying memecoins issued by, partnered with, or promoted by federal, state or local officials, including tokens using an official’s likeness. The law targets politically linked memecoins rather than the wider memecoin market. California’s attorney general, district attorneys, city attorneys and county counsels can bring civil actions. Remedies include injunctions, disgorgement and other penalties. The legislation passed unanimously in both chambers. Newsom called it an anti-corruption and consumer-protection measure, linking it to scrutiny of Donald Trump’s $TRUMP token. The law is unlikely to apply retroactively to $TRUMP, which launched in January 2025. Newsom’s office cited losses of about $3.81 billion among nearly one million $TRUMP wallets, while Trump reported $636 million in related royalties. Newsom also signed SB 1208, extending California money-laundering rules for digital-asset transactions through 2032. Authorities may seize crypto connected to money laundering, fraud, theft and other crimes, with recovered assets directed first to victims. For traders, the California memecoin ban raises regulatory and listing risks for politically branded tokens. The direct price impact on $TRUMP and the broader market is likely limited because the rules focus on issuance and access for California users, not global trading. However, exchanges may tighten listing policies before 2027, potentially reducing liquidity and increasing volatility for affected memecoins.

ZetaChain Moves ZETA and Anuma to Solana

ZetaChain token holders have approved the migration of ZETA and its flagship AI application Anuma to Solana, followed by a gradual shutdown of the ZetaChain Layer 1. The proposal passed with 99.4% approval and 58% voter participation. ZetaChain said the move marks a broader pivot from cross-chain interoperability to private AI. Anuma combines multiple AI models with portable user memory, allowing users to retain preferences and project context when switching models. The project is also developing model routing, privacy infrastructure, permissioned memory sharing and x402-based payments for third-party applications and AI agents. Native ZETA is expected to convert to a Solana SPL token on a 1:1 basis. Its 2.1 billion total supply and existing vesting schedule are expected to remain unchanged. ZETA issued on Ethereum and BNB Chain is excluded. A second proposal will determine the shutdown date, snapshot block, claims process, exchange coordination, staking and rewards. Anuma reportedly reached about 306,900 wallets and 1.27 million inference requests by 22 September. ZetaChain’s proposed ZETA Access system would link token locking to AI usage credits. ZETA rose more than 40% after the initial vote and traded near $0.05, but traders must weigh the bullish Solana and AI narrative against migration execution, uncertain token utility, user retention, developer adoption and whether AI revenue can cover inference costs.

QNT Surges 300% on Quant-TCH Bank Partnership

Quant Network’s QNT token rose about 300% in seven days, briefly trading above $270, after The Clearing House (TCH) selected Quant for its On-Chain Money Initiative. QNT trading volume also exceeded $600 million in 24 hours. TCH is owned by 25 major US banks, including JPMorgan, Bank of America and Citigroup. It operates the RTP real-time payments network and CHIPS wholesale settlement system, which process more than $2 trillion in interbank transactions daily. TCH plans to test a regulated, shared network for programmable, 24-hour transfers between commercial banks in the first half of 2027. Quant will use its Overledger platform to connect tokenised bank deposits with existing payment rails. The technology supports interoperability, transaction orchestration and near-real-time settlement across different ledgers. The development follows a separate UK trial in which seven major banks, including Barclays, HSBC and Lloyds, completed customer payments using tokenised pound deposits through Quant’s platform. The partnership strengthens Quant’s position in institutional blockchain infrastructure and may accelerate adoption of tokenised deposits. Unlike USDC and USDT, tokenised deposits remain bank liabilities and may retain deposit protection, while helping banks reduce the risk of deposit disintermediation. However, TCH has not disclosed the contract value, revenue terms or any requirement to hold QNT. Quant’s software fees can also be paid in US dollars, so institutional adoption may not create sustained spot-market demand for QNT. The rally therefore reflects strong expectations rather than confirmed earnings. Traders should monitor profit-taking and volatility, as well as competition from JPMorgan’s Kinexys and the Canton Network, which includes major institutions such as DTCC, Goldman Sachs, BNY Mellon, HSBC and Visa. Quant must still demonstrate live deployment, revenue growth and effective token value capture.

KOSPI Falls 2.7% as Samsung, SK Hynix Slide

South Korea’s KOSPI index weakened further on 28 September, falling 191.17 points, or 2.7%, to 6,889.75. This followed a sharper 3.26% decline reported on 14 September, signalling continued pressure on Asian equities. Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix each fell more than 5% in the latest session, after earlier declines of 4.04% and 6.34% respectively. The sell-off highlights weakness in the semiconductor sector and broader technology stocks. Because the KOSPI is a key gauge of regional risk sentiment, the move could weigh on appetite for technology and other risk assets. Bitcoin and wider cryptocurrency markets may face short-term volatility if traders reduce exposure to equities and other speculative positions. Crypto traders should monitor Asian equity futures, semiconductor stocks, bond yields and liquidity conditions for signs of a broader risk-off move.

UK Banks Test Tokenized Deposits Against Stablecoins

Seven major UK banks, including Barclays, HSBC UK, Lloyds Banking Group, Monzo, Nationwide, NatWest and Santander, have completed live customer transactions using tokenized sterling deposits. The UK Finance pilot used Quant’s shared infrastructure and tested two remortgage completions and a consumer marketplace payment. The transactions showed that tokenized deposits can make commercial-bank money programmable. Funds could be locked and released automatically when agreed conditions were met. Unlike stablecoins, tokenized deposits remain claims on commercial banks and stay within the regulated banking system. Tokenized deposits may improve payment speed, settlement and interoperability, while stablecoins remain more portable across public blockchains and between users at different banks. The pilot moves beyond simulated transfers and is expected to expand into digital-asset settlement and digital debt instruments. For crypto traders, the initiative highlights growing competition between bank-issued digital money and stablecoins and the increasing demand for reliable on-chain cash. It is unlikely to create an immediate cryptocurrency price catalyst, but it could influence the long-term structure of digital-asset settlement.

Fed Rate Hike Raises Pressure on Crypto Risk Assets

The Federal Reserve delivered a 25-basis-point Fed rate hike, lifting its policy rate to 3.75%–4.00% in its first increase in more than three years. The decision was unanimous, while the dot plot pointed to at least one more rate increase, with 16 of 18 officials seeing further tightening in 2026. Two policy meetings remain on 28 October and 9 December. Markets initially sold off, but US stocks recovered in the following session. The Nasdaq 100 rose 1.7% and the S&P 500 gained 1.1%. The rebound suggests that equity resilience and changing rate expectations partly offset the hawkish Fed rate hike. However, the two-year Treasury yield reached a cycle high of 4.74%, while the 10-year yield approached or exceeded 5%, signalling persistent inflation and financing concerns. Gold traded near $4,350, below the $4,400 resistance level. Brent crude remained around $102 after four consecutive declines, while core inflation stayed above 3%. The Dollar Index hovered near 100 and USD/JPY traded around 157. Geopolitical tensions, including Houthi attacks on Saudi Arabia and the Russia-Ukraine war, added to market uncertainty. Traders were also watching the Trump–Xi summit and related trade talks. For crypto traders, the Fed rate hike creates a mixed but initially bearish backdrop. High Treasury yields and a strong dollar can reduce liquidity and pressure Bitcoin and other risk assets. Equity strength and any easing in rate expectations could support sentiment, but traders may want confirmation from bond yields, oil prices, inflation data, employment figures and geopolitical developments before increasing exposure.

Bitcoin Price Analysis: $87K Breakout or $80K Retest

Bitcoin price analysis shows BTC has advanced from the $74,000–$75,000 support area and tested resistance near $80,500–$82,500. The later update shows that BTC was rejected from the $86,000–$87,300 supply zone, briefly fell towards $83,000 and recovered to about $84,900. Bitcoin price analysis remains broadly bullish. BTC is trading above rising moving averages, while the daily RSI has recovered above 50 without reaching overbought levels. However, a sustained breakout above the wider $86,000–$89,000 resistance region is needed to confirm further gains. A move above $87,300 could trigger short liquidations and target new highs, with significant Binance BTC/USDT liquidity around $87,000–$88,000. The key support zone has shifted higher to $80,000–$82,000. Holding it would preserve the higher-low structure, while a breakdown could expose the $75,000–$78,000 demand area. Earlier liquidity around $74,000–$75,000 also highlights downside volatility risk. Traders are watching for a decisive move above $87,300 or a loss of $80,000–$82,000.

Bitcoin faces a long-term quantum threat known as Q-Day. A sufficiently powerful quantum computer could use Shor’s algorithm to derive private keys from exposed public keys and steal funds. No such machine exists today, and the timeline remains uncertain, so the Bitcoin quantum threat is unlikely to drive immediate prices. Earlier estimates placed the risk decades away. New research from Google and Caltech, along with falling defense costs, has encouraged earlier preparation. Blockstream CEO Adam Back supports optional Bitcoin upgrades that would allow a gradual shift to quantum-resistant cryptography. Blockstream has also tested hash-based signatures on Liquid, while Taproot could support alternative cryptographic approaches. The latest work points to three main protection paths. StarkWare said the estimated cost of a quantum-resistant Bitcoin transaction fell from about $320 to $67 in one week. However, the nonstandard method only protects coins whose public keys have not been exposed and is not a complete solution. A longer-term option is a Bitcoin soft fork supporting post-quantum signatures, although decentralized governance, testing and adoption could take years. Coinbase is developing post-quantum custody systems for assets reportedly worth about $250 billion. Researchers are also examining privacy designs inspired by Zcash for shielded Bitcoin transfers. Meanwhile, BitMEX Research has proposed a “canary fund” that would signal a cryptographic breach, while BIP-361 would immediately freeze dormant balances—an approach critics say could lock legitimate funds. For traders, no current proposal makes Bitcoin quantum-safe. The developments are mainly a long-term infrastructure and custody story, with limited short-term price impact. Progress on protocol upgrades, custody standards or a credible quantum breakthrough could nevertheless increase volatility and influence Bitcoin sentiment.

Polygon POL Burn Targets Supply Pressure as Upgrades Advance

Polygon has permanently burned 100 million POL, formerly known as MATIC, using accumulated Polygon PoS base-fee revenue rather than Polygon Foundation treasury funds. The burn equals about 1% of the token’s original supply. The community is also accumulating a further 25 million POL for a potential future burn. The latest update adds that Polymarket has launched perpetual contracts on Polygon. Planned network upgrades include block streaming aimed at eventually delivering 1-millisecond on-chain confirmations and an OMS system expected to add capacity for about 1 million transactions per day. Despite these developments, POL remains near $0.10 and has not produced a clear price rally. Traders are weighing the burn against roughly 2% annual issuance and the uncertainty over whether future burns will exceed new minting. Polygon reported about $24.5 million in 2026 revenue, while stablecoin activity remained strong, including approximately $79.25 billion in monthly transfers and nearly $3 billion in stablecoin market capitalisation. Visa has also included Polygon in a stablecoin settlement pilot. Polygon is narrowing its strategy around blockchain payments after executive departures, job cuts, the shutdown of Polygon zkEVM, and acquisitions of Coinme and Sequence. Management aims to build a profitable payments business by 2027. The POL burn offers a limited supply-side catalyst, while technology upgrades, payment adoption and execution remain more important long-term drivers. Traders should monitor on-chain delivery, POL volume, issuance, revenue growth and wider crypto-market conditions.

Bitcoin ETFs Rebound as 2026 Inflows Turn Positive

U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs have reversed a roughly $5.8 billion 2026 deficit recorded in July and returned to positive annual net flows. The recovery followed six to seven consecutive inflow sessions, with about $2.84 billion to $2.98 billion entering the funds. Farside data showed $190.7 million in inflows on September 24, while Friday added a further $134.5 million. BlackRock’s IBIT led one of the strongest sessions. The renewed Bitcoin ETF demand coincided with Bitcoin’s recovery from below $58,000 in early June to around $84,000-$85,000. Cumulative net inflows since the products launched have reached roughly $58 billion, with total net assets near $108.4 billion. However, 2026 inflows of about $800 million to $887 million remain well below the approximately $35.2 billion recorded in 2024 and $21.4 billion in 2025. The Bitcoin ETF rebound supports short-term sentiment and suggests improving institutional demand. Traders should monitor whether inflows remain consistent, as Bitcoin ETF flows can reverse quickly when prices, bond yields, regulation or wider macroeconomic conditions weaken. The key question is whether this is a sustained institutional recovery or a temporary late-quarter rebound.

Sequans Exits Bitcoin Treasury After Selling Final 314 BTC

Sequans Communications has sold its final 314 BTC, ending its Bitcoin treasury strategy and reducing its cryptocurrency holdings to zero. The French semiconductor company began unwinding the strategy after raising $384 million in June 2025. Its Bitcoin holdings later exceeded 3,200 BTC, but Sequans sold 970 BTC in November 2025 to repay half of its convertible debt and continued reducing its position in 2026. The latest sale followed the redemption of the remaining convertible debt. Chief executive Georges Karam said the move strengthened Sequans’ balance sheet and allowed the company to refocus on its mobile IoT and software-defined radio businesses. The company reports no outstanding debt apart from obligations tied to government-supported research and development programmes. Sequans’ exit highlights the risks of leveraged corporate Bitcoin accumulation. Companies with fixed repayment obligations may be forced to sell BTC during market weakness, potentially creating a high-buy, low-sell cycle. VanEck research head Matthew Sigel said at least nine companies had abandoned or liquidated Bitcoin treasury strategies in 2026, while others had reduced their holdings. The trend may weigh on Bitcoin-related equities and investor sentiment, but Sequans’ sale is unlikely to materially affect the broader BTC market.

Nscale IPO Targets NYSE With $103B AI Contracts

Nscale has filed for a US IPO and plans to list on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker NSCL. The Nscale IPO filing does not yet disclose the number of shares or the price range. The British AI cloud and data-centre company reported first-half 2026 revenue of $140.6 million, up 1,252% year on year. However, its net loss reached about $1.02 billion, highlighting the capital-intensive nature of AI infrastructure. By the end of August, Nscale reported more than $103 billion in active and contracted total contract value, covering about 461,000 deployed or contracted GPUs. Microsoft and Anthropic are major customers, creating strong potential revenue visibility but also significant customer concentration risk. Nscale has secured about $3.1 billion in convertible financing, including $1 billion from Nvidia. The funding is intended for data centres, power, networking and GPUs. The Nscale IPO will test investor appetite for high-growth AI infrastructure companies. Key risks include execution, financing costs, dilution, potential AI capacity oversupply and the gap between contracted value and current revenue. The news is not expected to have a direct impact on Bitcoin or the wider cryptocurrency market.
