MARA-Linked Wallets Move 1,000 BTC to Exchanges; Sale Unconfirmed

Wallets linked by on-chain analysts to Bitcoin miner MARA Holdings transferred about 1,000 BTC, worth an estimated $82.8 million, to Binance and Gate over five days. The deposits have renewed attention on MARA’s Bitcoin treasury as pressure on mining economics continues. The transfers do not confirm a sale: the Bitcoin could be for custody, collateral, trading inventory or other operational needs, and the staggered movements do not show that the full amount was sold at once. The transfers follow a separate 996 BTC movement to a Galaxy Digital-linked wallet on Oct. 8. MARA also sold about 23,093 BTC for $1.63 billion in the first half of 2026 to support operations and reduce debt, and has previously used Bitcoin as loan collateral. The company has said it may monetize holdings depending on market conditions and capital needs. Traders will be watching for a treasury update or further on-chain evidence; until then, the exchange deposits are a possible source of short-term Bitcoin selling pressure, not proof of a sale.

HRT Interns’ Success Puts Hyperliquid in Focus

A 10-person Hudson River Trading (HRT) intern cohort from 2015 has drawn comparisons to the “PayPal Mafia”: at least four members went on to found unicorn companies. A photo shared by Meta Chief AI Officer Alexandr Wang brought attention to former interns Wang, Hyperliquid founder Jeff Yan and Cognition CEO Scott Wu. The group’s ventures span AI and crypto. Meta reportedly invested $14.3 billion in Wang’s Scale AI; Cognition, the company behind AI coding tool Devin, is reported to be valued at $48 billion. Yan built Hyperliquid, a decentralized crypto trading platform, with an 11-person team and no outside funding. An earlier account cited more than $900 million in annual profit and a $76 billion market value for Hyperliquid. The reports offer no new product, policy or token developments for Hyperliquid. For crypto traders, the story mainly highlights how quantitative trading talent is moving into digital-asset infrastructure, rather than providing a direct new signal for HYPE.

DarkSword iPhone Exploit Repackaged to Steal Crypto Wallets

SlowMist says the DarkSword iOS exploit chain has been repackaged as a deployable spyware framework targeting iPhone users and cryptocurrency wallets. Code appeared on GitHub in March, and researchers observed attack infrastructure operating from late September. The related DarkSword-PROV2 project reportedly includes exploit code, a delivery server, an administrative panel, a database and theft modules targeting imToken, TokenPocket and TronLink wallets. Its documentation offered a full version for 5,000 USDT. The framework can reportedly be triggered when a user visits a malicious page in Safari. Although the system accepts devices from iOS 13 onward and its library contains more than 1,000 payload entries, SlowMist says the complete exploit chains currently supported by the attackers’ routing code target iOS 18.6–18.7.2 and iOS 26.0–26.1. Broad device labels do not establish that every version can be compromised. In one 30-day period, the control panel recorded 20,187 page visits and 1,187 exploit attempts, with 10 reported successes and data exfiltration in nine cases. SlowMist also reported 57 logged devices across multiple regions. Separately, the exposed panel showed 6,115 visits, 10,125 theft records and 143,802 iOS logs; these figures come from a different reporting context and should not be combined with the 30-day funnel. No victim financial losses were disclosed. SlowMist advises anyone who visited a suspicious page to treat wallet keys and seed phrases as potentially exposed, move funds to a new wallet created on a clean device, and review and revoke unnecessary token approvals. The DarkSword case highlights the risk of public iOS exploits being adapted for crypto wallet theft.

France Protests Escalate as Security Tightens and Curfew Odds Rise

France protests over rising living costs escalated into violence, vandalism and looting in several cities, with unions, students and Yellow Vest activists among those involved. Reports cited arrests and injuries, while demonstrations also reflected concerns about school conditions and declining public services. Authorities have tightened security: President Emmanuel Macron authorised local officials to ban gatherings, and Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu backed local curfews. The government also pledged financial aid to businesses affected by the unrest. A Paris curfew is under consideration, but has not been announced. Polymarket odds cited in the later report put the chance of a Paris curfew at 24.7% by October 19 and 57.5% by October 31—up from 1.1% and 8.5%, respectively, in the earlier report. The earlier report put the odds of a state of siege by January 1, 2027, at 4.2%; the later report said the odds remained below 4% for its listed dates. These are prediction-market estimates, not official decisions. France protests could add to domestic political uncertainty, but neither report identifies a direct cryptocurrency policy change or crypto-market impact. Traders should treat the story as a public-order development rather than a direct signal for digital-asset prices.

Celestia’s Eden Tests AI Payments, but TIA Demand Is Unproven

Celestia has launched Eden, a high-performance EVM chain designed to test AI-agent commerce and payments. Eden handles transaction execution and ordering, while Celestia provides data availability. It uses TIA for gas and reports 100-millisecond target block times, a 50-million gas limit per block, batch transactions and sponsored gas fees. Eden currently relies on a single sequencer and a private transaction pool, so sequencing remains centralized and does not remove MEV risks. The first experiment is Botfun, a closed test in which AI agents can issue and trade tokens, provide liquidity, and pay for large language model inference through the x402 micropayment protocol. Eden has reportedly processed 2.59 million transactions since testing began in July. Earlier, Botfun reported 516,468 transactions in the week starting July 6, its highest weekly total. Celestia said inference payments briefly made Eden one of the largest x402 chains by transaction count, but the ranking, timeframe and share of transactions that were x402 payments have not been independently verified. Celestia is positioning Eden as a potential source of high-frequency AI activity and added utility for TIA. However, adoption remains experimental, with no independently confirmed user or trading-volume figures. TIA is about 97% below its $21 peak, and recent 24-hour Celestia network fee revenue was reported at just $108. Eden could support TIA demand if usage grows and translates into sustained on-chain activity, but its near-term market impact remains uncertain.

Saylor Pitches 6%–8% Yield on Bitcoin-Backed Stablecoin

Strategy executive chairman Michael Saylor has proposed a US dollar-pegged, Bitcoin-backed stablecoin with a potential annual yield of 6% to 8%. He presented the idea at ParaFi Investor Day as part of a broader digital finance framework linking Bitcoin as digital capital, yield-bearing products such as Strategy’s STRC preferred stock as digital credit, and stablecoins as digital currency. The concept remains a proposal, with no confirmed launch, collateral ratio, redemption terms or yield mechanism. Saylor suggested returns could draw on Strategy yield products and dollar cash reserves. Bitcoin does not generate interest, so any stablecoin yield would depend on financing or other cash flows. A falling BTC price could also weaken collateral and require the issuer to add assets or reduce supply. STRC, which had a 12% annualized dividend rate in September 2026, is an existing example of Strategy’s digital-credit approach, but it is not a stablecoin and its dividend and market price can change. Meanwhile, USDT and USDC account for about 84.6% of the roughly $302.5 billion stablecoin market, supported by established liquidity and redemption infrastructure. Regulatory treatment of a yield-bearing, Bitcoin-backed stablecoin in the US remains uncertain. For traders, the proposal signals a possible new use for BTC as payment collateral, but it is not yet a confirmed competitor to leading dollar tokens.

Yuga Labs’ Mudwater TCG Faces Weak NFT Demand

Yuga Labs launched Mudwater, a physical-digital trading card game (TCG), at ApeFest 2026. The Solana-based collection includes 10,000 boxes, with 71.3% allocated to BAYC and MAYC communities. BAYC holders can claim 10 packs per NFT and MAYC holders two; each pack contains 10 cards linked to NFTs representing physical cards held in a vault. Its first set, Swamp Origins, features 120 designs across rarity tiers. Planned features include player-versus-player matches and a mechanism that would use 2.5% of each transaction to buy APE and distribute it to Mudwater NFT holders. Early Mudwater trading has been weak: pack floor prices fell from 5 SOL to about 0.3 SOL, and individual cards dropped from 0.258 SOL to 0.09 SOL. The proposed APE buyback has not delivered a notable price boost. BAYC’s weekly trading activity increased, but its floor price rose only 0.9%; MAYC’s fell about 4.9%. Mudwater must compete with established TCG brands. Pokémon and One Piece collectibles represented 79% of collectible value on Collector Crypt as of 17 October. The launch may engage existing Yuga Labs holders, but weak early trading, limited brand recognition and reliance on holder distributions leave its ability to attract new players and sustain secondary-market demand uncertain.

Crypto Vaults Top $10B Amid Rising Risk and Scrutiny

Crypto vault deposits have risen from $4 billion at the start of 2025 to more than $10 billion, as fintech firms, digital-asset treasury companies and hedge funds seek on-chain yield. In these DeFi lending products, curators choose strategies and set risk limits. Typical annual yields are 3% to 10%, while higher-risk vaults may offer 20% or more. The expansion of crypto vaults brings risks including illiquid collateral, unreliable pricing, smart-contract flaws, hacks and forced liquidations that can worsen market declines. The US SEC has questioned whether vaults holding tokens classified as securities may be subject to securities laws. Proposed EU rules could also bring some DeFi intermediaries under regulatory oversight. Two Prime’s Bitcoin lending vault on Pareto, launched in September, illustrates institutional participation. It accepts WBTC, targets annual returns of 1.5% to 2% and requires a minimum deposit of 5 WBTC. Two Prime reportedly committed about $10 million to absorb initial losses. For traders, growing crypto vault deposits point to rising demand for on-chain yield, but collateral quality, liquidity and regulatory developments remain important risks to monitor.

Zcash Proposes One-Time Keys to Limit Quantum Privacy Risks

Zcash developer Zakura has proposed giving every shielded address used in a NEAR Intents swap a separate incoming viewing key. The proposal aims to limit the privacy risk from a future quantum computer: if one published refund address were compromised, an attacker could see payment details linked to that address, but not the account’s full history. Zcash currently uses one incoming viewing key across an account’s addresses. No quantum computer capable of breaking these protections exists today. The change would not affect spending keys or require a Zcash network upgrade. The proposal remains under review. Wallets using Zakura’s open-source software, including Vizor, may add support in the coming weeks, while hardware-wallet support would require later firmware updates. Zakura also says private information retrieval could let wallets check for NEAR payouts without revealing which addresses they query. The proposal is part of broader Zcash quantum-resistance efforts. Zcash Open Development Lab CEO Josh Swihart said in May that the project aims to achieve full post-quantum status within 12 to 18 months. ZEC was reported at $1,165, up 3.6% on the day, but this wallet-level privacy proposal does not itself change the Zcash network or provide a direct market catalyst.

Musk Plans SpaceX Share Giveaway to US Children

Elon Musk says he plans to give every child in the United States one share from his SpaceX holdings next year, calling the proposal “the first of many” initiatives. The later account clarifies that the shares would come from his holdings, but gives no details on eligibility, the number of shares or how they would be distributed. SpaceX is privately held, so its shares are not publicly traded. The SpaceX share plan has no direct connection to cryptocurrency markets and is unlikely to affect crypto prices.

EIP-8288 Could Expand Ethereum’s Cryptography Support

Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin has backed EIP-8288, a draft proposal for expanding Ethereum’s cryptography support without adding a separate protocol function for every new signature or proof system. The proposal would let users generate signatures and STARK proofs off-chain, then recursively aggregate proofs for on-chain verification. This could reduce the need to include large proof data in blocks while retaining the transaction data and commitments required for verification. EIP-8288 could make it easier for Ethereum to support new cryptographic schemes, including larger quantum-resistant wallet signatures. However, it remains a draft and requires implementation, security review and agreement on a network upgrade. It has no immediate effect on Ethereum’s rules or trading conditions; any benefits to flexibility and scalability would be long-term.

Anthropic Licenses Opaque AI Privacy Technology

Anthropic has licensed confidential-computing technology from Opaque Systems and hired key staff, including CEO Aaron Fulkerson and CTO Rishabh Poddar. The arrangement is not a full acquisition: Opaque remains independent, and the financial terms were not disclosed. Opaque’s technology lets AI workloads process sensitive data in hardware-isolated environments and can provide cryptographic attestations to verify data-handling practices. Anthropic could use it to strengthen privacy and security features for enterprise customers in regulated sectors such as finance and healthcare, although product plans and rollout timing remain unknown. A prediction-market contract cited in the later report put the chance of Anthropic having the best AI model by the end of October at 28%. The deal has no direct, clear impact on cryptocurrency prices.

XRP Ledger Fix Advances, Lending Launch Remains Delayed

The XRP Ledger’s fixCleanup3_4_0 amendment has secured the 29 validator votes required to pass its two-week approval process. It could activate around 09:34 UTC on October 23, provided support remains at the threshold. The XRP Ledger patch addresses issues in transaction processing, vault accounting and token handling, including a loophole that could let some accounts create tokens. It fixes parts of the proposed lending code but does not launch the lending system. The separate uncollateralised lending and vault amendments still need 29 votes each; with 19 and 21 votes respectively, lending cannot go live before early November even if they reach the threshold immediately. The update is a technical milestone, but it does not directly add a new XRP use case yet.

World ID Brings Biometric Verification to Zoom

World has launched World ID for Zoom worldwide for enterprise customers, adding a Human Badge intended to show that meeting participants are real people. Users must verify their identity with an Orb iris scan; during supported meetings, the system compares that verification with a live selfie and Zoom video feed. World says the comparison takes place on the user’s phone and Zoom does not receive the underlying biometric data. Companies can set verification periods of 24 hours, 7, 15 or 30 days. The service requires a Zoom enterprise account, the World ID app and an Orb-verified identity. The global rollout follows a limited pilot with VanEck Funds. Bain Capital, Pantera Capital, OpenExchange and Outtake have been named as financial-services design partners, though no bank was identified as having deployed the full package. The launch responds to growing deepfake and impersonation risks, including a reported $25 million transfer fraud involving people posing as executives and fake Zoom meetings used by suspected North Korea-linked hackers to target crypto and fintech firms. World ID verifies participants in supported Zoom meetings, but cannot protect users from fake meeting websites or malicious downloads. World’s iris-scanning technology has also faced privacy scrutiny and regulatory action in several countries. For crypto traders, the launch advances identity-verification infrastructure but has no clear direct effect on token prices.

HYPE Whale Targets Variational and Entropy Perp DEXs

A prominent HYPE whale, an0n2498.hl, is expanding activity across decentralised perpetual exchanges (Perp DEXs), with a focus on Variational and Entropy. The trader received 474,719 HYPE in Hyperliquid’s 2024 genesis airdrop—worth about $37.7 million at the article’s cited price of $79.50—and says they have sold very little. On-chain data cited in the article shows more than $30 million in HYPE-related assets staked. The HYPE whale ranks second on Variational’s lifetime trading-volume leaderboard, with about $3.546 billion in volume, and is the platform’s only user at its top “Infinity” level. The trader says they plan to hold VAR through its token generation event and may increase their position. They also claim the top trading-volume ranking on Entropy. Other stated interests include Hyperliquid-linked project Kinetiq and projects associated with Ink, Nado, Quotrons and Kraken. The trader says they have not used Lighter and do not plan to. The activity highlights one whale’s interest in emerging Perp DEXs, but high trading volume does not guarantee profits or airdrops. It is not a trading blueprint, and smaller users may face different costs and risks.

SEC to Advance Crypto Rules After CLARITY Act Setback

SEC Chair Paul Atkins says the agency will keep developing a comprehensive crypto market structure framework after the CLARITY Act failed to reach the Senate’s 60-vote threshold on 15 September. With legislation stalled, crypto regulation may rely more heavily on the SEC’s existing authority and guidance. The SEC has introduced temporary relief for some tokenized stock trading rules and discussed round-the-clock US stock trading and innovation exemptions for tokenized securities and DeFi. Atkins described these steps as transitional; lasting crypto regulation will require further rulemaking. He also praised departing White House crypto adviser Patrick Witt, who helped negotiate the bill and the proposed SEC-CFTC oversight split. No successor has been named, adding uncertainty about policy coordination. Regulatory guidance could arrive sooner, but the scope and consistency of US crypto regulation remain unclear. For traders, the developments signal continued policy activity rather than a settled framework.

JustLend DAO Burns 19% of JST Supply in Five Rounds

JustLend DAO completed its fifth JST buyback and burn on 16 October 2026, sending 170,723,144 JST to a black-hole address. Across five rounds, the protocol has burned 1,881,973,007 JST—19.01% of the token’s total supply—with an estimated value of about $118.15 million. The JST burns were funded by protocol revenue, and transactions are verifiable on-chain. Nscale IPO Faces Valuation Pushback and Delays

Nscale’s IPO plans face growing investor resistance, with a wide gap between the company’s valuation expectations and what some investors are willing to pay. The London-based AI cloud company had sought a valuation of up to $35 billion, more than double its $14.6 billion private valuation in March 2026. Later reports put its target at about $30 billion, while some investors reportedly favor $16 billion to $19 billion. Nscale has filed its listing application but has not started formal IPO marketing and is responding to comments from the US Securities and Exchange Commission. Its first-half revenue rose to $140.6 million from $10.4 million a year earlier, but it recorded a $1.02 billion net loss. Investors are also weighing a $103.4 billion contracted backlog, of which only about 2.5% was active by late August, alongside customer-concentration risk tied to Microsoft and Anthropic. A Norwegian data centre is six months behind schedule, and Microsoft withdrew from a planned UK project amid power constraints. Nscale’s $3.36 billion pre-IPO convertible-note financing, which included Nvidia and has a $30 billion conversion cap, provides another valuation reference. Rising borrowing costs, concerns about AI infrastructure returns and Firmus’s abandoned IPO plans have added to sector caution. Nscale may delay its IPO or accept a lower valuation; traders will be watching pricing, construction progress and the activation of customer contracts.

South Korea’s FSS to Fast-Track Crypto Foundation Probes

South Korea’s Financial Supervisory Service (FSS) plans to fast-track investigations into unfair trading linked to crypto token foundations. The plan was outlined in an October 19 report to the National Assembly’s Political Affairs Committee as part of efforts to protect digital asset users and support orderly markets. The FSS also cited other high-risk market activity, broadening the scope of its oversight. It named no foundations, tokens or suspected cases and gave no timetable or details on penalties. Claude Traces NIST Curve Seeds, Easing Backdoor Concerns

Anthropic says its internal Claude research model reconstructed how seeds for several NIST and ANSI elliptic curves were generated in 1997–1998. The model linked five seed values to the legacy `lrand48()` pseudorandom number generator, recovered its 48-bit internal state using statistical analysis and the LLL lattice-reduction algorithm, and traced the states to Unix timestamps. It also reproduced the widely used P-256 seed at the 1,842nd candidate. The findings provide a reproducible explanation for the origin of the public parameters, helping address longstanding concerns that the curves may have been deliberately weakened. They do not crack elliptic-curve cryptography or expose private keys. Anthropic says users do not need to take action; Bitcoin uses the separate secp256k1 curve and is not affected. A $36,864 research bounty will go to the Internet Security Research Group, the nonprofit behind Let’s Encrypt. For crypto traders, the immediate impact on Bitcoin and market stability is likely neutral: the research reports no breach of Bitcoin’s cryptography or current network security. Its broader significance is that AI-assisted historical research and cryptanalysis could make audits of cryptographic systems and legacy software less costly.

El Salvador Bitcoin Reserve Tops 7,800 BTC Under IMF Limits

El Salvador’s Bitcoin reserve reached 7,807 BTC by 16 October, up by more than 1,700 BTC from about 6,070 BTC when the country’s $1.4 billion IMF lending programme began in early 2025. At a Bitcoin price of around $82,000, the holdings were worth an estimated $640 million to $650 million. The IMF agreement restricts public-sector Bitcoin purchases using government funds and required El Salvador to end Bitcoin’s legal-tender status. The country made that change, but its reserve continued to grow. The IMF says recent additions came from private donations, not public funds, and does not expect further growth beyond such donations. President Nayib Bukele’s government continues to describe the reserve as a strategic holding. El Salvador’s National Bitcoin Office publishes the reserve’s wallet addresses, making the balance publicly verifiable on-chain. The reserve’s growth signals continued government support for Bitcoin, but does not confirm new public-sector buying or a direct change in market supply. For traders, the key risks are Bitcoin’s price volatility and possible scrutiny of future additions under the IMF programme.

Papertrade’s $42.24M Revenue Raises PAPER Sustainability Concerns

Papertrade reported $42.24 million in seven-day protocol revenue, but the figure has raised questions about how sustainable its trading and reward model is. Much of the reported income is linked to trader losses and pool surpluses, rather than conventional trading fees. Papertrade references Hyperliquid’s best bid and ask midpoint instead of matching equivalent perpetual trades. Its asymmetric profit-and-loss rules can deduct part of winners’ profits without reducing losses on equivalent terms. The platform launched without external liquidity providers, so profitable traders may face delayed payouts if pool funds are insufficient. Papertrade issues PAPER to users who incur eligible losses, with higher issuance rates for early participants. PAPER holders can stake the token for USDC rewards. Lookonchain reported that one trader generated $2.84 billion in volume, lost about $1.71 million, and received 136 million PAPER plus roughly $1.07 million in USDC staking rewards. After claimed and pending rewards, the trader’s cash loss was about $637,000, excluding PAPER’s uncertain market value. Another early account reportedly received about $997,000 in USDC rewards against $979,000 in trading losses while retaining 252 million PAPER. The model carries significant trading risks: leverage reaches 1,000x, and early data cited in the article showed that 4,395 of 5,836 addresses using that leverage had been liquidated at least once. Reward payouts also fell sharply after launch, while continued PAPER issuance may dilute holders. For traders, headline revenue and incentives do not guarantee lasting returns; sustainability depends on real demand, available pool liquidity and whether revenue can fund rewards without ongoing token incentives.

Latvia Plans Crypto Tax Payments and New Tax Rules

Latvia plans to allow residents to pay personal taxes with cryptocurrency as early as 2027. Finance Ministry approval has been reported, but officials still need to finalise technical arrangements with a payment provider. The eligible cryptocurrencies and provider have not been announced, and the plan could depend on the next government’s policy direction. Separately, parliament passed a crypto tax law on 15 October. Instead of taxing each trade, the rules will tax gains when funds are withdrawn from crypto investment accounts and withdrawals exceed deposits. A one-time disclosure window is planned for 1 April to 31 May 2027. Holders can declare past assets at their market value at the end of 2026 and pay 10%; payment is due by 23 July 2027. The proposed crypto tax payments and revised reporting rules could make compliance easier and support Latvia’s ambitions in fintech and asset tokenisation. Colorado has accepted crypto for tax payments since 2022, converting payments into US dollars. The Latvian measures may be notable for crypto businesses, but they do not directly indicate a change in demand or prices for any specific cryptocurrency.

Anthropic Fund: Musk Proposes Direct Public Share Distribution

Anthropic has created the Anthropic Public Benefit Fund, a wholly owned LLC that would initially receive shares equal to 5% of the AI company, subject to stockholder approval. The potential contribution could reach 20%, but is not guaranteed; the fund would be barred from political contributions and lobbying. Elon Musk proposed distributing the shares directly to the public instead of holding them in a fund, saying that was what he intended to do. Aptos Burns 174,570 APT, but Supply Keeps Growing

Aptos burned about 174,570 APT through transaction fees in the latest 30-day period, up slightly from an earlier estimate of about 174,195 APT. Cumulative burns since the network’s 2022 mainnet launch have reached about 1.9 million APT. Higher gas fees in 2026 have accelerated token burns, although average transaction fees remain low, at roughly $0.0005–$0.0006. Monthly staking emissions of about 1.5 million APT still exceed burns, adding roughly 1.4 million APT to net supply. APT therefore remains inflationary, not deflationary, at current activity levels. Traders should track the burn-to-issuance balance, transaction activity, staking rewards, token unlocks and any governance changes to the temporary 2.1 billion APT supply cap.
