US Senate Delays Crypto Market Structure Bill

The US Senate failed to advance the Digital Asset Market Clarity Act after a key procedural vote, leaving the crypto market structure bill in limbo. The bill aims to define regulatory authority between the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC), potentially providing clearer rules for exchanges, tokens and digital-asset firms. The setback followed disputes over ethics rules linked to senior officials’ crypto interests, including President Donald Trump’s reported income from World Liberty Financial, the $TRUMP memecoin and American Bitcoin. Lawmakers also disagreed over stablecoin yield, decentralised finance risks and the bill’s wording. The Senate’s decision to draft its own version, rather than adopt the House-approved bill, further slowed negotiations. With the US midterm elections approaching, the crypto market structure bill may face additional delays. Traders should monitor Senate negotiations, SEC and CFTC policy signals, and regulatory volatility across major crypto assets. The bill’s failure increases uncertainty for exchanges, stablecoin issuers, DeFi platforms and digital-asset businesses, but its direct price impact is likely to remain limited unless negotiations produce a major surprise.

Pump.fun Sends $5.83M SOL to Kraken as Sales Near $848M

Pump.fun sent 47,994 SOL, worth about $5.83 million, to Kraken on 27 September, according to Lookonchain. The transfer raised Pump.fun’s estimated cumulative SOL sales to 5,236,623 tokens, valued at roughly $848 million at an average price of $162. Earlier reporting identified a separate transfer of 77,706 SOL, worth about $7.88 million, from a Pump.fun fee wallet to Kraken. Both transactions highlight continued Pump.fun treasury movements, but transfers to a centralised exchange do not prove that the SOL was immediately sold. Kraken’s internal trading activity is not fully visible on-chain. SOL traded near $121 after the latest transfer, up about 1% in 24 hours and 11.6% over seven days. The $5.83 million transfer was small relative to Solana’s multibillion-dollar daily trading volume, and no sharp price decline was reported. Traders should monitor Kraken order-book activity, exchange inflows and SOL price momentum for signs of selling pressure. Pump.fun is also using SOL for its PUMP buyback and burn programme. Its dashboard showed about $463.5 million spent to buy and permanently burn 167.91 billion PUMP tokens by 25 September. Pump.fun says about 50% of protocol revenue is allocated to PUMP purchases and burns. The latest Pump.fun transfer is therefore a relevant treasury-flow signal, but its immediate effect on SOL appears limited.

Iran Ceasefire Rejected as Hormuz and Nuclear Talks Stall

US President Donald Trump rejected Iran’s seven-day Iran ceasefire proposal on 26 September, calling it unacceptable and saying Tehran was seeking talks after suffering heavy losses. He left open the possibility of a future agreement but said Washington’s priority remains preventing Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons and ending uranium enrichment. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said on 27 September that Tehran had not received Washington’s formal position through mediators. Iran wants the US to return frozen assets, ease oil sanctions and end the maritime blockade before reopening the Strait of Hormuz. Its proposal would also extend the ceasefire to Lebanon and Yemen and begin final negotiations on the seventh day. Iranian officials offered mixed signals on the nuclear programme. President Masoud Pezeshkian said talks with UN inspectors could be possible, while other officials said Iran would retain its enrichment rights and would not transfer highly enriched uranium abroad. Another report said Tehran could dilute its 60% enriched uranium and ship it out under an IAEA-approved mechanism. The Iran ceasefire remains stalled over which side must make the first concession. Renewed sanctions or military escalation could push up oil prices, inflation expectations and demand for defensive assets. This may weaken broader crypto risk appetite and increase short-term volatility, liquidity stress and compliance scrutiny. A credible Iran ceasefire agreement could reduce geopolitical risk premiums and support market liquidity, but no direct bullish catalyst for major cryptocurrencies has emerged.

Bitcoin Nears $85,000 Cost Line as Miner Selling Eases

Bitcoin briefly moved above JPMorgan’s estimated production cost of about $85,000 after spending a record 280 days below it. The recovery was short-lived, with BTC later trading near $84,100, or roughly 1% below the cost line. Bitcoin production cost is viewed as a soft price floor because unprofitable miners may sell holdings, shut down equipment or leave the market. Miners have reduced pressure by moving operations to cheaper power markets, retiring older machines and idling inefficient hardware. Network hashrate is about 19% below its October peak, while mining difficulty has fallen around 15%. These changes may limit forced selling, but a sustained break below the Bitcoin production cost could revive miner pressure. JPMorgan also reported that miners are redirecting capacity towards AI infrastructure, where data-centre contracts can offer more predictable and profitable returns. The shift is slowing hashrate growth and could moderate future increases in Bitcoin production cost. Publicly listed miners are also losing market share to private operators. Traders should watch whether BTC can reclaim and hold $85,000, alongside miner selling, hashrate and mining difficulty trends.

ETH Whale Deposits $300M on Bitfinex for Profit

An Ethereum whale or institution that held ETH for about three years has continued taking profits. It deposited another 30,825 ETH, worth roughly $83.03 million, to Bitfinex, according to blockchain analyst Ember. Over the past week, the whale transferred 112,053 ETH to the exchange, valued at about $300 million, at an average price of approximately $2,676 per ETH. The transactions generated an estimated realised profit of $72.83 million. Blockchain data shows the entity withdrew 130,592 ETH from Bitfinex in 2023 at an average price of about $2,026. The ETH deposits may signal planned selling and could increase short-term exchange-side supply. Traders should monitor Bitfinex inflows, ETH exchange balances, support levels and price reaction for signs of further distribution.

ARK Venture Fund Tokenized on Ethereum

ARK Invest and Securitize are launching the ARK Venture Fund’s tokenized share class, ARKVX, on Ethereum. The Ethereum-based fund token gives eligible US investors indirect exposure to private technology companies, including SpaceX, OpenAI, Anthropic, Stripe, Crusoe and Figure AI. Investors receive tokenized fund shares, not direct ownership of the underlying companies. The fund held $1.3 billion in net assets as of 30 June, with about 62% invested in private companies. As of 31 August, SpaceX accounted for 7.54% of the portfolio, followed by Kalshi at 5.81%, OpenAI at 5.26% and Anthropic at 3.86%. Each token is backed one-to-one by fund shares held with BNY Mellon. Investors need a verified Securitize account and an approved wallet. The minimum initial investment is $500, while additional investments can start at $5. A 2% transaction fee applies, and annual fund expenses are 3.49%, or 2.90% after waivers. The Ethereum tokenization does not provide continuous liquidity. ARKVX remains an actively managed closed-end interval fund, with exits available through quarterly repurchase offers capped at 5% of outstanding shares. Requests may be prorated. Transfers are initially limited to verified Securitize users, while decentralised exchange trading and DeFi collateral use are planned for a later stage. For crypto traders, the Ethereum tokenization is a positive signal for institutional blockchain adoption and private-market real-world assets. However, the launch is unlikely to create an immediate catalyst for ETH or the wider crypto market. Its longer-term significance is the expansion of tokenized assets into venture capital, while limited liquidity and high fees may restrict near-term trading activity.

Coinbase Bitcoin Premium Index Remains Negative

The Coinbase Bitcoin Premium Index remained negative for a seventh consecutive day on 13 September 2026, reaching -0.0205%, before extending its negative streak to four consecutive days at -0.0082% on 26 September. The indicator compares Bitcoin prices on Coinbase with those on Binance and is widely used to assess US investor demand and institutional buying pressure. The Coinbase Bitcoin Premium Index briefly turned positive at 0.0052% on 24 August, ending 97 consecutive days of negative readings that began on 19 May. Its latest small negative spread suggests slightly weaker US-based spot demand, but it does not confirm a major Bitcoin trend reversal. Traders should track the index alongside spot volumes, ETF flows, funding rates and price momentum. A sustained negative premium could reinforce a cautious market outlook, while a return to positive territory may support Bitcoin price strength.

MoonPay to Acquire North Capital for Tokenized Securities

MoonPay has agreed to acquire North Capital Investment Technology in an all-stock deal aimed at expanding its tokenized securities and onchain capital markets business. The transaction remains subject to regulatory approval and other closing conditions, and financial terms have not been disclosed. Cointelegraph reported that the deal could be worth more than $60 million, but MoonPay has not confirmed that valuation. North Capital operates SEC-registered broker-dealers, an alternative trading system, a transfer agent and an investment adviser. Its infrastructure supports capital raising, investor onboarding, custody, clearing, escrow and secondary trading for exempt and tokenized securities. Its PPEX platform lists more than 1,250 approved assets and has recorded 625,000 secondary trades. North Capital has processed more than $8.7 billion in primary and secondary transaction volume. The acquisition would give MoonPay regulated infrastructure across the private-securities lifecycle, complementing its existing links between fiat currencies, stablecoins and crypto assets. Tokenized securities could benefit from stronger compliance and trading rails, but the deal has not closed. Its immediate effect on crypto prices and trading activity is therefore likely to be limited.

CoinMarketCap Acquires CoinGlass for Derivatives Data

CoinMarketCap has completed its acquisition of CoinGlass, expanding its crypto derivatives data and market analytics offering. The deal closed on 25 September 2026, with financial terms undisclosed. CoinGlass will continue operating under its existing brand, with its team, website, mobile app, free tools, API and subscription pricing unchanged. The platform tracks more than 2,500 instruments across 28 exchanges and provides liquidation data, open interest, funding rates, long-short positioning, options and ETF flows. It has more than 5 million monthly users and over 10,000 API clients. CoinMarketCap, owned by Binance since 2020, serves about 115 million monthly users. The acquisition adds derivatives analytics to its existing coverage of token prices, market capitalisation and trading volumes. CoinMarketCap and CoinGlass could give traders easier access to leverage, positioning and liquidation-risk indicators. However, the acquisition itself is not a direct price catalyst for cryptocurrencies and is expected to have a neutral immediate market impact.

HIFI Raises $37M for Stablecoin Infrastructure

HIFI has raised $37 million in Series A funding led by Left Lane Capital, with Managing Partner Matthew Miller joining its board. The stablecoin infrastructure company will use the capital to expand regulatory licensing, international hiring, Visa card payouts and capital-market services. HIFI provides APIs linking bank payment rails with stablecoin settlement. It says its platform processes more than $7 billion in annualised volume across 87 countries. Customers have onboarded more than 10,000 businesses and 200,000 individuals, while usage has increased more than fourfold in six months. HIFI recently expanded stablecoin payouts through Visa Direct, potentially reaching more than 4 billion Visa cards. It has also participated in DTCC tokenised-asset pilots and production trades, including a tokenised repo transaction settled on Canton with USDCx as the cash leg. Its wider institutional relationships include BlackRock, Goldman Sachs, Nasdaq, DRW, Marex, Sumitomo, Dapper and Arival Bank. HIFI has also integrated with Circle’s Payments Network. A September 3 SEC Form D showed that HIFI Bridge had sold $21.8 million of a planned $27.3 million equity offering. The valuation of the $37 million round was not disclosed. For crypto traders, the HIFI funding highlights rising institutional demand for stablecoin infrastructure and tokenised securities. HIFI appears to be strengthening the settlement layer between banks and blockchain markets, but the deal does not introduce a new publicly traded token, so its direct effect on crypto prices is likely limited.

Onchain RWA Perps Hit 86% of $117B August Volume

Onchain real-world asset (RWA) perpetual futures reached $101 billion in August 2026, accounting for 86% of the $117.3 billion monthly RWA perp market, according to a16z crypto. Centralised exchanges handled about $16 billion. Total RWA perpetual volume rose 44-fold from a year earlier, while open interest climbed from $161 million in July 2025 to $4.8 billion by the end of August 2026. Equities represented 48% of volume, followed by commodities at 28% and indices at 18%. The growth points to rising demand for tokenised exposure to traditional assets and onchain derivatives. Hyperliquid’s HIP-3 protocol, launched in October 2025, helped platforms create new perpetual markets and share liquidity more efficiently. Regulatory restrictions may also be driving activity towards onchain venues, with a16z noting that only one US-regulated centralised platform is approved to offer a single perpetual futures product. For crypto traders, expanding RWA perps could improve liquidity, product choice and competition among decentralised exchanges. However, rapid leverage growth raises liquidation, liquidity and counterparty risks. Traders should monitor open interest, funding rates and liquidation activity alongside volume.

Sandisk Contracts Boost Outlook Despite Cyclical Risks

Sandisk (SNDK) has strengthened its memory-chip outlook with about $94 billion in multi-year contracts. The agreements include minimum price and volume commitments, covering around 50% of expected 2027 chip sales and two-thirds of 2028 sales. Earlier disclosures also cited $16.5 billion in guarantees, improving revenue visibility through 2028. Sandisk is benefiting from artificial intelligence demand, tight memory supply and strong free cash flow. Management targets mid-to-high-teens revenue growth, an approximately 80% gross margin and a 50% free-cash-flow margin through 2030. The company could also benefit from earnings growth and potential share buybacks. However, Sandisk shares have already risen about 665% year to date, increasing the risk of profit-taking and valuation repricing. The stock’s forward price-to-earnings ratio of about 8.07 remains below the sector median, but the company remains exposed to memory-market cycles, rising supply, consumer weakness, macroeconomic uncertainty, China-related disruptions and customer concentration. For traders, Sandisk offers strong contract visibility and AI-linked demand, but near-term upside may be limited and volatility is likely to remain high.

MetaMask 13.50.0 Expands Perps and Money Account

MetaMask 13.50.0 builds on version 13.49.0 with broader Money Account, perpetual futures (Perps) and wallet improvements. For traders, the MetaMask update adds a memecoin category and filter rail for Perps markets, while saving order-form, order-book and chart preferences. It also improves balance, withdrawal and Hyperliquid deposit displays, and adds Long and Short actions on supported token pages. Money Account gains live activity tracking, a “How it works” page, FAQs, disclosures and explanatory tooltips. Users can see clearer “Paid by MetaMask” labels for sponsored fees, along with transaction details for MetaMask Card purchases, cashback, refunds and Earn deposits. The earlier release also added live mUSD rewards, deposits, sends and refunds. Trading reliability has improved through Arc USDC reserves for swaps and bridges, MetaMask Pay quote validation, better deposit quotes and live APY data. MetaMask fixed stablecoin valuation, Max transaction calculations, recipient validation, gas-limit checks, buy flows, duplicate notifications and inaccurate balances. Perps now includes a searchable destination-account picker, redesigned chart controls and automatic access after successful deposits. The wallet update adds account hiding, revealing, removal, importing, restoration and activity controls. It also improves Backup & Sync for buy and sell history, regional token-availability explanations, NFT-tab notices and Stellar Snap 1.0.0. Security changes include mandatory EIP-7702 upgrades for eligible accounts before advanced permissions and refined address-poisoning detection. The MetaMask update mainly improves trading execution, payment accuracy, account transparency and wallet security. It does not introduce a major token or protocol catalyst, so traders should expect limited direct price impact while monitoring Perps usage, USDC liquidity and broader market sentiment.

Tokenized Stocks on Base Reach $21.6M

Coinbase’s tokenized U.S. stocks on Base, an Ethereum layer-2 network, have reached an on-chain market capitalisation of $21.6 million, according to Token Terminal. Earlier activity included a $7.5 million deposit, equivalent to about 42% of the assets’ on-chain market value, indicating growing use in DeFi as collateral or liquidity. The tokenized stocks can now be used as collateral in Aave’s Equities Hub on Base. This integration gives tokenized stocks greater utility and strengthens the link between traditional equities and decentralised finance. It could also increase activity across the Base ecosystem. The development has renewed speculation about a potential Base token, but Coinbase has not announced any issuance plans. Prediction-market odds for a Base token launch by 31 December 2026 stood at 8.5%, with reports showing the probability rising from 7% in the latest update, although an earlier reading had placed it at 10%. For traders, the $21.6 million market cap, Aave integration and further adoption of tokenized stocks are the main signals to monitor. Coinbase announcements, DeFi partnerships, regulatory developments and executive comments could affect sentiment. However, the market remains relatively small, and Base token-launch expectations are still limited. The Base tokenized-stocks expansion is therefore an adoption signal, not confirmation of a future token.

New York Sues Polymarket Over Alleged Illegal Gambling

New York Attorney General Letitia James and Governor Kathy Hochul have sued Polymarket US, alleging that the prediction-market platform operated unlicensed gambling markets in the state. Officials say Polymarket allowed users to trade contracts tied to sporting events without a New York gambling licence and that people aged 18 to 20 could access the platform, despite the state’s 21-year minimum age for mobile sports betting. The lawsuit seeks to block Polymarket’s New York operations, recover alleged illegal proceeds, impose penalties of up to three times those gains and provide restitution to users. New York also argues that federal commodities oversight does not override state gambling law. Polymarket and rival Kalshi maintain that their event contracts are federally regulated financial products rather than gambling, a position supported by the Commodity Futures Trading Commission. The Polymarket case adds to regulatory uncertainty for crypto prediction markets and sports betting contracts. It could increase compliance costs, restrict market access and encourage closer scrutiny of similar platforms. For crypto traders, the direct impact on cryptocurrency prices is likely limited, but the dispute remains a regulatory and sentiment risk for the wider crypto sector.

Akamai Shares Rise on $11.6B Anthropic AI Deal

Akamai shares rose after the company announced a seven-year, $11.6 billion cloud infrastructure agreement with Anthropic. The contract could reach $20 billion, strengthening Akamai’s position in AI infrastructure and improving visibility for its cloud services business. The deal is not expected to materially affect Akamai’s financial results until 2027. Akamai reaffirmed its 2026 guidance, but may need about $5.5 billion in capital expenditure to support the contract. Potential equity dilution of up to 5% and reliance on one major customer create funding, execution and concentration risks. The announcement also lifted expectations for Anthropic’s future valuation. Prediction-market activity is focused on possible fundraising, strategic partnerships and an initial public offering, while Amazon and Google remain potential sources of further support or cooperation. For crypto traders, the Akamai deal is an indirect signal of sustained institutional demand for AI computing and cloud infrastructure. It is not a direct cryptocurrency catalyst. Traders should watch technology-sector momentum, overall risk appetite and any spillover into AI-related digital assets. The expected impact on cryptocurrency prices is neutral, with the long-term outcome depending on Anthropic’s execution, revenue growth and additional partnerships.

Crypto Tax Forms Leave US Traders Facing Cost-Basis Gaps

Crypto tax forms are creating major filing challenges for US traders during the first reporting season for Form 1099-DA. An Awaken Tax survey of 1,000 investors found that 21% of people who had filed or planned to file a tax extension were still waiting for exchange information or were unsure whether their forms matched their trades. For 2025 transactions, brokers generally reported gross sale proceeds, while cost-basis reporting was mostly voluntary. A Form 1099-DA may therefore omit the original purchase price, fees, transfers and wallet activity. Traders must reconcile the form with exchange statements, wallet records and complete transaction histories before calculating crypto gains or losses. Tax advisers reported missing trades, delayed forms, inconsistent formats and large differences in stablecoin transaction totals. Active traders may need to enter hundreds of transactions manually because some tax software cannot reconcile 1099-DA data automatically. Tax returns under an approved extension are due by 15 October, but tax payments were generally due by the original deadline. The IRS advises taxpayers to request corrected forms when needed rather than delay filing. For 2026 transactions, brokers will generally have to report cost basis for certain digital assets purchased through custodial brokers after 2025. Assets transferred from other platforms or acquired earlier may remain noncovered, so accurate records will remain essential.

Utah SEDI Sets Privacy Rules for Digital Identity

Utah’s State-Endorsed Digital Identity (SEDI) framework, created by SB 275 in 2026, establishes privacy and governance rules for digital identity rather than prescribing a single technology or vendor. The SEDI framework supports open standards, user-controlled wallets and selective disclosure, allowing residents to prove facts such as being over 21 without revealing their full identity, birth date or address. The law bans “phone home” designs that notify the government whenever a credential is presented. It limits how verifiers and wallet providers process, retain, sell or share identity data, while protecting access to physical identification and preventing government agencies from penalising people who reject digital credentials. A Duty of Loyalty also requires ecosystem participants to avoid practices that undermine users’ interests or create disproportionate risks. SEDI limits credential revocation to cases such as fraud, compromise or issuance errors, and seeks equal treatment for physical and digital credentials. However, enforcement will largely depend on the attorney general and future court rulings. Private businesses face fewer restrictions when demanding digital identification, while multistate interoperability remains under development. Utah has not yet issued SEDI credentials, and its technical standards and implementation guidance are unfinished. The existing mobile driver’s licence programme is scheduled to end on 1 January 2027. For crypto traders, SEDI is a policy signal favouring privacy-preserving credentials, verifiable claims, zero-knowledge proofs, open standards and user-controlled data. It could influence blockchain identity and wallet design over the long term, but it is not an immediate cryptocurrency price catalyst.

Stablecoins Gain Momentum in AI Agent Payments

Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong says growing numbers of AI agents could drive autonomous machine-to-machine payments, with stablecoins and crypto rails potentially becoming the preferred infrastructure. Coinbase data indicates the trend is already producing activity: the x402 payment standard recorded 75.41 million transactions and $24.24 million in volume over 30 days, involving 94,060 buyers and 22,000 sellers. AI agents used USDC in 99% of x402 transactions, while more than 90% ran on Base. Use cases include trading, AI inference, media generation and storage. Adoption is also expanding through major technology firms. AWS launched a preview of AgentCore Payments with Coinbase and Stripe, supporting stablecoin micropayments, wallet controls and audit logs. Stripe added x402 payments on Base, while Google Cloud and Solana are developing Pay.sh for stablecoin-funded access to Gemini and cloud APIs. The data strengthens the long-term case for stablecoins in AI payments, but Armstrong provided no firm timeline or forecast for mass adoption. For traders, stablecoins are a strategic growth narrative rather than an immediate price catalyst. Sustained growth in stablecoin usage could eventually support USDC, Base-related infrastructure and broader blockchain payment networks.

Coinbase Expands 24/7 Gold and Silver Trading

Coinbase has launched GOLD-PERP and SILVER-PERP perpetual contracts for eligible non-US traders, expanding 24/7 gold and silver trading through its crypto derivatives infrastructure. The USDC-settled contracts track one troy ounce of each metal, do not expire and offer leverage of up to 25x for gold and 20x for silver. Coinbase is also working with the CFTC to extend regulated US gold and silver futures toward round-the-clock trading through Coinbase Derivatives. The move supports Coinbase’s “Everything Exchange” strategy and may attract crypto traders seeking continuous commodity exposure. Traders should consider leverage, margin and liquidation risks. Liquidity and price discovery may be weaker during weekends and overnight periods when traditional metal markets are closed. The expansion could increase derivatives activity, but it is not a direct bullish or bearish catalyst for cryptocurrencies.

Avalanche Tested by ICE for NYSE Tokenised Securities

Intercontinental Exchange (ICE), the parent company of the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE), has spent about a year testing Avalanche for a potential tokenised securities platform. The assessment examined technical performance, economics and institutional requirements. ICE executives described the company as highly engaged with Avalanche, while Ava Labs said the two sides had developed a close working relationship. However, ICE has not selected Avalanche, and no production deployment or commercial agreement has been confirmed. NYSE announced plans in January to support tokenised US stocks and ETFs, with Pillar used for trade matching and blockchain technology for settlement. The proposed platform could enable 24/7 trading, tokenised collateral and stablecoin-funded transactions, subject to regulatory approval and Depository Trust Company infrastructure. ICE has also invested in tZERO, which is expected to help design digital transfer-agent and broker-dealer infrastructure. Avalanche is a candidate because of its low transaction costs, institutional wallet support, interoperability and compliance tools. These include permissioned validators, user and transaction whitelists, controlled smart-contract deployment, privacy features and audit support. A final selection could increase institutional demand for Avalanche and AVAX, but the current evaluation does not confirm network adoption or immediate AVAX demand.

Coinbase Phishing Scam Leads to 12-Year Sentence

A Brooklyn man has received a 12-year prison sentence for a Coinbase phishing scam that stole about $15.94 million from roughly 100 cryptocurrency users. Ronald Spektor, 23, pleaded guilty to 31 charges, including first-degree money laundering and grand larceny. Spektor impersonated Coinbase customer support and falsely claimed victims’ accounts had been hacked. He pressured them to move funds to supposedly secure wallets that he and his accomplices controlled. Some victims lost more than $1 million, while the average loss was about $159,000. Investigators traced the stolen cryptocurrency through exchanges, mixers, crypto gambling platforms and online stores. Blockchain analysis and digital forensics linked Spektor’s home IP address to wallets receiving the funds. He also allegedly recruited accomplices online, used the alias “lolimfeelingevil” and claimed to have gambled away $6 million in crypto. Spektor must forfeit more than $500,000 in cash, cryptocurrency and property, and pay nearly $16 million in restitution. Coinbase said there was no evidence of a platform security breach and stressed that legitimate staff will not call customers or ask them to transfer funds to a safe wallet. The Coinbase phishing scam is a reminder that social engineering and impersonation remain major crypto-security risks. Traders and investors should treat unsolicited support calls, urgent account warnings and wallet-transfer requests as potential fraud.

NEAR Leads 2026 Smart-Contract Capital Rotation

Bankless co-founder David Hoffman says NEAR could become the leading 2026 smart-contract buying hub as crypto capital searches for new narrative and liquidity centers. He compares this potential rotation with ZEC’s emergence as a possible destination for Bitcoin-related demand and Ethereum’s major repricing in 2021. Hoffman estimates Bitcoin’s market capitalisation at about $1.7 trillion, compared with roughly $26 billion for ZEC. He argues that even a small allocation from BTC holders could support ZEC because of its privacy features, quantum-resistance narrative and diversification potential. ZEC’s market capitalisation has reportedly risen from about $200 million to $26 billion. NEAR is competing with ETH and SOL for smart-contract investment, but the available capital pool is smaller and more fragmented. Hoffman argues that mature blue-chip assets may offer lower expected returns while facing technical debt and technological constraints. He also questions how much value BTC and ETH can capture from projects including Hyperliquid, Venice, Lighter, Ethena and Morpho. The thesis is speculative and does not confirm institutional flows. Traders should monitor NEAR volume, ecosystem activity, risk appetite and relative strength against ETH, SOL and BTC. ZEC/BTC and NEAR/ETH performance may provide useful signals, but both trades remain highly exposed to narrative risk and volatility.

MetaMask Release 8.12.1 Fixes Predict and Trading Flows

MetaMask has released version 8.12.1 as an OTA hotfix after the broader 8.12.0 and 8.11.0 update cycle. The latest MetaMask release fixes confirmation issues for Predict deposit-order transactions, including nested orders and exact-output trades. It also improves transaction payment processing and updates the OTA version to v8.12.1. The wider release cycle adds clearer swap and limit-order fee displays, relayer-fee visibility, more reliable trading quotes, gas and balance checks, and fixes for Solana Pay QR transfers. MetaMask also improved perpetual trading, Money Account deposits, push notifications, onboarding, and tokenised-stock discovery. Earlier updates included better prediction-market claim flows, market details and live Bitcoin price performance. The release does not introduce a new token, blockchain, trading incentive or major network-fee change. Traders using Predict, swaps, limit orders, Solana transfers or perpetuals should update the wallet. The direct market impact of MetaMask Release 8.12.1 is expected to remain limited, although the fixes may improve execution reliability and user confidence over time.

Bitcoin Miners Shift to AI as Contracts Near $100B

Bitcoin miners are shifting power and grid-connected sites from Bitcoin mining to artificial intelligence and high-performance computing (HPC) after the 2024 halving squeezed margins. Public miners have announced an estimated $70 billion to $100 billion in AI-related contracts. AI customers can generate about $1.5 million per megawatt annually, compared with roughly $500,000 for Bitcoin mining. Recent agreements include Core Scientific’s 12-year, $10.2 billion deal with CoreWeave for 590 megawatts, TeraWulf’s reported $12.8 billion in contracted HPC revenue and IREN’s approximately $9.7 billion, five-year GPU cloud agreement with Microsoft. Hut 8 has also secured long-term leases worth up to billions of dollars. However, much of this income remains prospective. Of roughly 4 gigawatts of contracted AI and HPC capacity, only about 550 megawatts is generating revenue, implying utilisation of around 14%. Current annualised revenue is estimated at $1.1 billion to $1.5 billion. Earlier industry data also showed nine public Bitcoin miners spending $5.11 billion on capital assets in the first half of 2026, while directly reporting only $341.2 million in AI and HPC revenue. The transition could remove about 35 exahashes per second from public miners. AI-focused mining companies trade at roughly 12 to 13 times forward sales, versus 3.7 to 6 times for Bitcoin-focused peers. Traders should monitor project execution, tenant credit quality, financing, power availability and whether contracted capacity becomes recurring revenue. Bitcoin miners may gain higher-margin income over the long term, but near-term returns remain dependent on construction and customer delivery.

Coinbase Builds Post-Quantum Custody for $250B

Coinbase is developing post-quantum custody infrastructure to protect about $250 billion in institutional crypto assets, according to Chief Cryptographer Yehuda Lindell. The post-quantum custody system is being designed to support multiple signature standards because Bitcoin and other blockchains have not yet agreed on a common approach. Coinbase initially focused on adapting multi-party computation (MPC), which distributes private-key control and reduces single-point-of-failure risks. However, some post-quantum schemes, especially hash-based signatures, may not work with conventional MPC. Research into MPC-style solutions remains experimental. The company is therefore also exploring post-quantum threshold decryption and programmable hardware security modules (HSMs). These devices could assemble encrypted private keys within physically protected infrastructure. The model may be less decentralized than MPC but could support signature standards that traditional custody systems cannot handle. Coinbase is researching ML-DSA and blockchain address migration while maintaining a blockchain-agnostic design. Bitcoin has no approved post-quantum migration plan, and the project’s completion timeline is unclear. For traders, the initiative could strengthen long-term institutional confidence in Bitcoin and crypto custody, but it does not immediately affect transaction rules, supply, or market liquidity.

Micron Stock: AI Growth Meets Memory Cycle Risks

Micron stock has fallen about 23% from its May 2026 peak, when the company’s market value exceeded $1 trillion. The pullback has renewed debate over whether Micron Technology is a long-term artificial intelligence beneficiary or a cyclical memory-chip company. The bullish case remains strong. Fiscal third-quarter revenue reached $41.46 billion, up 346% year on year, while adjusted earnings per share rose to $25.11. Gross margin approached 85%, supported by demand for high-bandwidth memory (HBM) used in AI data centres. Micron expects fiscal fourth-quarter revenue of about $50 billion and adjusted EPS of roughly $31.27. Its results are due on 30 September 2026. Micron has signed 16 Strategic Customer Agreements, covering $22 billion in customer commitments and $100 billion in performance obligations through 2030. The take-or-pay terms could improve revenue visibility. The company also launched a 512GB DDR5 RDIMM, which it says offers 1.4 times the performance and more than 60% lower power consumption than earlier configurations. Earlier reports said HBM demand was more than twice available supply, prompting Micron to target monthly HBM wafer output of about 100,000 units. However, expanding capacity at Micron, SK Hynix and Samsung could eventually create oversupply. Micron expects supply conditions to improve after 2028, potentially pressuring HBM prices and its unusually high margins. For Micron stock traders, the next earnings report, fiscal 2027 guidance, memory pricing and capacity plans are the key catalysts.

RBI Expands Bitpanda Crypto Trading Across Europe

Raiffeisen Bank International (RBI) has signed a group-wide agreement with Bitpanda to expand crypto trading across its Central and Eastern European banking network, which serves about 18 million customers. Bitpanda Enterprise will provide infrastructure for crypto trading, custody, liquidity, payments, stablecoins and tokenisation. Each RBI network bank will choose its services and launch schedule based on local regulations. The first planned rollouts are in Albania, the Czech Republic and Slovakia during the first half of 2027. The agreement builds on Bitpanda crypto trading services already introduced by Raiffeisenlandesbank Niederösterreich-Wien in January 2024 and Raiffeisen Salzburg in August 2026. RBI says growing customer demand is driving the expansion, while Bitpanda highlighted the combination of traditional banking reach and digital-asset technology. The partnership could improve mainstream access to crypto trading and support long-term adoption. However, the rollout is more than a year away, so it is unlikely to create an immediate Bitcoin or Ether price catalyst. Traders should focus on regulatory approvals, launch dates and user uptake as indicators of longer-term market impact.
