Bitcoin Price Tests $78K as Momentum Weakens

Bitcoin price initially fell about 1% on September 8 after losing the former $79,500 support, with negative capital flows and liquidation clusters near $78,000 increasing downside risk. By September 9, BTC had slipped below $79,000 after failing to sustain gains above $81,000 and traded near $78,900. Short-term Bitcoin price momentum has weakened. On the four-hour chart, BTC is below the Bollinger Band midpoint at $79,187, while the ADX reading of 18.31 points to a weak trend. Support is concentrated near $78,000, close to the lower Bollinger Band at $78,084. A confirmed break below this level could trigger long liquidations and send Bitcoin towards $77,000, followed by $76,300-$76,000. Liquidity between $79,200 and $80,000 could fuel a short squeeze and lift BTC towards $80,300. Reclaiming $79,500 would improve the short-term outlook, while resistance remains around $80,600 and $81,000-$82,000. A move above $84,000 would weaken the bearish divergence case. Daily indicators remain relatively constructive. Bitcoin trades slightly above its 10-day moving average, while its RSI is 61.29, above the neutral 50 level. However, the RSI remains below its recent signal average, and analyst Gerla has identified bearish divergence. The bearish setup would become more credible after a confirmed break below approximately $76,000. Treasury yields and Federal Reserve interest-rate expectations could add volatility to BTC and other risk assets.

ANTH Gains 5.4% After Anthropic Market Launch

ANTH, the token linked to Entropy’s Anthropic pre-IPO market, rose from $1,988 at launch to $2,327, gaining 5.4% over 24 hours on Hyperliquid. Trading volume reached $14.32 million, while open interest climbed to $28.25 million, up from $9.69 million and $18.32 million in the earlier report. The market tracks speculative positions tied to Anthropic’s potential pre-IPO valuation. It does not represent publicly traded Anthropic equity. An earlier reported over-the-counter valuation was $1.988 trillion. The sharp increase in ANTH activity highlights strong short-term interest in AI-linked crypto derivatives. However, traders should monitor liquidity, contract terms, volatility and any divergence from a future financing or listing valuation. News about an Anthropic listing could also trigger rapid price movements.

Ethereum Sets 2029 Quantum-Resistance Deadline

The Ethereum Foundation’s protocol team has set December 2029 as the target for making Ethereum’s execution, consensus and data layers resistant to quantum attacks. The plan uses a conservative assumption that a capable quantum computer could emerge as early as 2030, although researchers generally expect “Q-day” to arrive later or never occur. The roadmap follows the planned Glamsterdam mainnet upgrade in December 2026. Hegotá will be an important early stage but will not itself make Ethereum quantum-resistant. Its two highest-priority proposals are FOCIL, which improves transaction-inclusion guarantees and reduces censorship risks linked to block-builder concentration, and Frame Transactions, which enables more programmable account verification and greater cryptographic flexibility. Later stages include I* for quantum-resistant key registries and consensus decoupling, J* for minimum viable post-quantum security, K* for mandatory execution proofs, and L* for post-quantum attestations and full quantum resistance. The order of K* and L* may change. Developers must deliver five upgrades in roughly three years, leaving limited room for delays. The protocol team also reviewed 62 proposals for Hegotá, while about 28 were rejected, including a proposal to change Ethereum’s issuance and burning policy. For ETH traders, quantum resistance is a long-term security upgrade rather than an immediate price catalyst. Successful milestones, testnet results and developer coordination could support confidence and ETH adoption. Delays, implementation flaws or governance disputes could increase technical risk. Short-term market impact is likely to remain neutral and milestone-driven.

Robinhood Expands Prediction Markets With Crypto.com

Robinhood is expanding its prediction markets through a strategic partnership with Crypto.com and OG.com. From 8 September 2026, selected college and professional football contracts will be routed to Crypto.com’s CFTC-regulated exchange and clearinghouse through OG.com, which Crypto.com plans to spin off as a trader-focused platform. Robinhood will receive undisclosed equity stakes in Crypto.com and OG.com after the planned spin-off. The valuation reference is about $20 billion, reportedly matching terms from Citadel Securities’ recent investment. Ownership percentages, lockups, revenue sharing and venue fees remain undisclosed. Robinhood will continue distributing contracts through Kalshi, ForecastEX and Rothera, its joint venture with Susquehanna International Group. Football contracts will be allocated among OG.com, Kalshi and Rothera based on available listings. Robinhood is also developing a US midterm-election hub and may later route election contracts to Crypto.com and OG.com. Prediction markets have become a major growth engine. Robinhood handled 13.6 billion event contracts in the second quarter, including more than 5 billion linked to the World Cup. The business generated about $156 million in revenue, rose 50% from the previous quarter and surpassed Robinhood’s crypto revenue for the first time. For crypto traders, the deal is primarily a distribution, liquidity and equity arrangement rather than a direct cryptocurrency catalyst. It could strengthen OG.com and increase liquidity in event contracts, but legal challenges involving sports contracts in US states remain a key risk. The longer-term value will depend on the disclosed economics, trading volumes and whether Robinhood expands election-contract routing. The impact on Crypto.com’s CRO token is likely neutral unless the partnership materially improves platform activity or changes investor expectations.

ZEC Rally Driven by ETF Demand and Short Squeezes

ZEC has evolved from a post-security-crisis recovery into the leading privacy coin in a broader market rally. The token recently traded above $800, while later CoinGecko data cited a 130.9% gain over 30 days and a 2,252% increase over one year. Its market capitalisation approached $20 billion, placing ZEC among the top 10 cryptocurrencies and above Monero, with more than 66.7% of the privacy-coin sector’s value. The rally has been supported by bullish commentary, short liquidations and institutional demand. Grayscale filed an amended application to convert its Zcash trust into an ETF, naming Coinbase Custody as custodian and BNY Mellon as transfer agent. A later report said Grayscale’s ZCSH product had attracted more than $500 million in assets within two weeks and held over 550,000 ZEC, although ETF-related claims remain subject to regulatory and market verification. Supply conditions have also strengthened the ZEC price narrative. Reduced issuance after the 2024 halving and the movement of roughly 29% of supply, or more than 5 million ZEC, into shielded pools have reduced apparent liquid supply. Short sellers, including a large Hyperliquid position reportedly linked to Garrett Jin, faced losses approaching $20 million. Zcash previously suffered a sharp sell-off after a disclosed vulnerability raised concerns about counterfeit ZEC creation. Developers released an emergency patch and completed the Ironwood upgrade, freezing an old pool containing about 3.66 million ZEC and introducing a mathematically verified replacement. Traders should treat ZEC as a high-volatility asset. ETF inflows, supply lock-up and further short squeezes could support the short-term trend, while profit-taking, limited liquidity, privacy-design criticism, governance disputes, founder rewards and European anti-money-laundering rules could trigger sharp reversals or restrict longer-term institutional access.

Block Seeks Bank Charter for Bitcoin Custody

Block, the financial technology company founded by Jack Dorsey, has applied for a federal bank charter through Builders Bank, a proposed uninsured national trust bank. If approved by the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency, the charter would allow Block to provide regulated Bitcoin custody without accepting deposits or issuing loans. The application reflects growing institutional demand for Bitcoin custody and digital-asset infrastructure. However, approval is not guaranteed, and the filing does not mean services will launch immediately. Details about the application’s timing, jurisdiction and potential assets under custody remain unclear. Traders should monitor the OCC’s decision, regulatory requirements and Block’s business plans. The Bitcoin custody application is strategically positive for long-term adoption, but its short-term effect on Bitcoin prices is likely limited.

Robinhood Chain Fees Surge as DEX Volume Doubles

Robinhood Chain recorded a record daily fee intake of about $6 million on 4 September, according to monitoring data from Tom Wan and Solid Intel. Its seven-day annualised fees reached $1.1 billion, while weekly fees later climbed 17-fold to $25 million. DEX trading volume doubled to $12.4 billion. The figures point to sharply increasing Robinhood Chain usage and demand for its on-chain trading infrastructure. Traders should assess whether the growth reflects sustained user adoption, deeper liquidity and recurring transaction activity, rather than short-term speculation. Continued fee and volume growth could improve sentiment around Robinhood Chain and decentralised finance markets. A rapid reversal would suggest that the activity is temporary. The data alone does not establish a direct bullish signal or confirm a sustainable trend.

DeFi Development Raises $11M to Expand SOL Treasury

DeFi Development completed an $11 million CHAD preferred-stock offering on 8 September, raising about $10.3 million after fees. The Nasdaq-listed company sold 1.375 million perpetual, non-convertible preferred shares at $8 each. CHAD has a $10 stated value and a variable 13% annual dividend rate, implying an initial yield of about 16.25% at the offering price. Dividends are discretionary and payable only when declared by the board and permitted by law. The first payment is scheduled for 1 October, with 30 September as the record date. DeFi Development said it plans to use substantially all net proceeds to purchase more SOL, although the offering documents also permit spending on working capital and strategic initiatives. Before the financing, the company held about 2.33 million SOL and SOL-equivalent assets. It also operates validator infrastructure and stakes SOL through external validators. Fundstrat co-founder Tom Lee participated in the completed offering. The financing was smaller than the previously proposed $19.8 million transaction, which would have involved 2.2 million shares at $9 each. CHAD ranks ahead of common stock for dividends and liquidation but behind company and subsidiary debt. For SOL traders, the deal supports DeFi Development’s long-term SOL treasury strategy and could create additional institutional buying demand. However, the near-term effect on SOL prices is likely limited unless the company’s purchases become large relative to market liquidity. Dividend obligations, execution risks and CHAD’s liquidity also add balance-sheet pressure.

Privacy Coins Lead Recovery as ZEC Surges

Privacy coins have emerged as the strongest-performing crypto sector, led by Zcash (ZEC). Glassnode data shows the sector has risen 213% since Bitcoin’s October 2025 peak, while DeFi has fallen 27% and gaming tokens have dropped 74%. ZEC gained 2,496% over the past year, climbing from 82nd to seventh by market capitalisation and accounting for 62% of the privacy-coin market. Monero (XMR) has doubled, while Dash (DASH) and Horizen (ZEN) have also outperformed Bitcoin recently. The broader crypto market has staged a sharp short-term recovery. Over the past 30 days, 91.5% of the top 200 assets gained. However, only 25 remain higher over the past year, with the median token still down 55%. This indicates broad near-term participation but limited long-term market strength. The later update also highlighted speculative projects, including the Hunter Biden-linked LAPTOP meme coin, which is due to open claims on Base on 9 September for 30 days. Project documents state that LAPTOP has no utility, creating legal, allocation and liquidity risks. Other projects mentioned include DeepState’s on-chain order book, Chimpers’ ERC-6551 NFT wallets and TapeOut’s blockchain processor experiment. For traders, the key signal is continued sector rotation into privacy coins, particularly ZEC. However, ZEC’s extreme gains, concentrated sector value and rising meme-coin activity could increase volatility and the risk of sharp reversals.

Copper CEO Exits as Sale Talks Enter Fourth Month

Copper CEO Amar Kuchinad has left the digital-asset infrastructure company as its sale process enters a fourth month. Copper began seeking a buyer in May and hired Cantor Fitzgerald to advise on the transaction. The company is reportedly seeking about $500 million, while potential buyers have offered closer to $200 million. Copper was once valued at more than $2 billion, highlighting a sharp decline in its valuation. Kuchinad joined Copper in October 2024 after working at Goldman Sachs and advising the US Securities and Exchange Commission. His departure adds leadership uncertainty during a potential ownership transition. Copper has appointed Elin Cherry as chief compliance officer and Sean Bowen as chief operating officer, but has not named an interim CEO. The sale and CEO exit could affect sentiment around institutional crypto custody and digital-asset infrastructure, although no deal has been confirmed.

Bitcoin Falls Below $80K as Fed Hike Risks Increase

Bitcoin fell below $80,000 after stronger-than-expected US jobs data increased expectations of another Federal Reserve rate hike. US employers added 162,000 jobs in August, while unemployment held at 4.1%. Markets now price about a 60% chance of a rate increase at the September 16 meeting. The data pushed the two-year US Treasury yield above 4.34% and strengthened the dollar, creating pressure on Bitcoin and other risk assets. Bitcoin recently reached $82,400 but has since traded between roughly $77,200 and $82,100. A break above $82,100–$82,500 could support a move towards $90,000, while a loss of $78,000 may trigger leveraged-long liquidations and expose support near $77,000, $75,700 and $71,800. Liquidation clusters around $78,000, $80,000 and $81,800–$82,300 could increase short-term volatility. Bitcoin ETF demand remains a key source of support, with nearly $1 billion in net inflows last week. More than 71% of Bitcoin’s supply is in profit, approaching the historical 74.7% level associated with market transitions. The next major catalyst is the US consumer price index report. Hotter inflation could raise rate-hike risks and weigh on Bitcoin, while softer inflation and continued ETF buying could help Bitcoin retest resistance.

Strategy Pauses Bitcoin Buys Again, Repurchases $176M

Strategy has paused Bitcoin purchases again, shortly after ending a reported 10-week buying hiatus. An earlier filing showed a five-week pause, unchanged holdings of 843,775 BTC and a cash reserve of about $3.75 billion. The latest update puts Strategy’s holdings at 845,050 BTC as of 7 September 2026, alongside $6.5 billion in dollar assets. Instead of buying Bitcoin, Strategy repurchased $176 million of STRC preferred stock and doubled its Digital Credit Securities Repurchase Program to $2 billion. Earlier, it had sold about 5.4 million MSTR shares for $544.5 million and directed the proceeds to its cash reserve. The company also repurchased $25 million of STRC stock in that report. Strategy’s Bitcoin accumulation has been constrained by funding conditions, including STRC trading below its intended $100 level. The company has used cash reserves, stock repurchases and occasional Bitcoin sales to manage its balance sheet. Chief executive Phong Le has described the balance sheet as “bullet-proof”. Strategy reported an $8.22 billion quarterly loss in July, largely because of Bitcoin price volatility. For crypto traders, the latest Bitcoin purchase pause removes an important source of short-term institutional demand. This is a near-term headwind for BTC, although Strategy’s large holdings, cash reserves and potential future financing could support longer-term exposure. Traders are likely to monitor MSTR performance, preferred-stock financing, share repurchases and any resumption of Bitcoin buying.

Coldcard Hacker Moves 97 BTC via THORChain and CoinJoin

The Coldcard hacker moved 97.09 BTC between September 2 and September 6, equal to about 45% of Bitcoin stolen in the third attack wave. Around 20.5 BTC went through THORChain into Ethereum, while 15.48 BTC and 61.12 BTC entered CoinJoin transactions. The funds came from 11 of 293 Wave 3 multisignature vaults, reportedly the largest wallets in the group. Galaxy Research estimates that the wider Coldcard theft involved about 1,806 BTC, worth roughly $143.9 million. About 82% of the stolen Bitcoin remains in attacker-controlled addresses, so the latest Coldcard hacker transfers do not yet indicate a full liquidation. CoinJoin remains the main route for moved BTC, while THORChain supports cross-chain transfers into Ethereum. The Coldcard exploit resulted from a seed-generation flaw introduced in a March 2021 firmware update. The error caused some wallets to rely on a weak software random-number generator, reducing seed security and allowing private keys to be regenerated offline. Later firmware updates cannot repair vulnerable seeds. Traders should monitor further Bitcoin wallet movements, exchange deposits and privacy-routing activity for potential selling pressure. BTC showed limited price reaction, trading near $79,500 after recently approaching $82,000.

Hanwha Completes Avalanche Tokenized Securities Platform

Hanwha Investment & Securities has completed a tokenized securities platform supporting Avalanche and Hyperledger Besu, developed with blockchain infrastructure firm FairSquare Lab. The platform is being prepared for South Korea’s planned legal recognition of tokenized securities on 4 February 2027. The first regulatory phase is expected to cover institutional money-market funds, bonds, trust-issued unlisted shares and publicly offered fractional-investment securities. Hanwha’s multi-chain infrastructure is designed to connect tokenized securities with traditional financial systems and overlaps with networks reportedly being considered by the Korea Securities Depository. However, there is no confirmation that the platform has been integrated with the depository. Hanwha has not disclosed which assets it will issue or service, or provided a launch timetable. The group has also acquired a 9.6% stake in Securitize and invested 30 billion won in Digital Asset, the operator of Canton Network. The developments strengthen the institutional case for tokenized securities in South Korea, but the direct short-term impact on AVAX is likely limited. Longer-term upside will depend on regulatory implementation, institutional adoption and actual network usage.

Longsys Raises $903M in Hong Kong IPO on AI Memory Demand

Longsys completed its Hong Kong dual listing on 8 September 2026, raising HK$7.0775 billion, or about US$903 million. It sold 29,989,450 H shares at HK$236 each after fully exercising a 15% upsize option. Longsys trades under stock code 09976 and remains listed in Shenzhen. Its shares opened nearly flat and were last reported at HK$235.8, slightly below the IPO price. Longsys reported first-half 2026 net profit of RMB10.7 billion, more than 260 times higher year on year, while revenue rose 136.3% to RMB24.1 billion. Earlier figures showed 2025 revenue of RMB22.766 billion and revenue of RMB14.7 billion in the first four months of 2026. Higher memory prices and AI demand that exceeded supply supported the sharp earnings increase. Longsys is China’s largest memory-product company by storage revenue and the world’s second-largest independent memory-product maker. About 78.3% of net IPO proceeds will support research and development, including chip design and advanced memory products. Lenovo Group and Ingenic Semiconductor participated as cornerstone investors. Longsys expects AI data-centre construction and AI features in consumer devices to sustain demand for high-capacity and high-speed memory. For crypto traders, the Longsys IPO is mainly a semiconductor and AI infrastructure signal rather than a direct cryptocurrency catalyst. Its muted debut suggests that strong AI-memory growth may already be priced in. The immediate impact on crypto prices and market stability is therefore likely to be limited, although broader technology risk sentiment could benefit over the longer term.

MOO Meme Coin Surges Past $34M, Then Falls to $27.5M

Robinhood Chain meme coin MOO rose more than 500% in 24 hours, initially reaching a market capitalisation of about $15.44 million before briefly exceeding $34 million. GMGN data later showed its market cap had fallen to approximately $27.48 million, highlighting extreme short-term volatility. MOO is an on-chain stock meme coin traded in the MOO/MU pair, which is directly linked to MU, the tokenised Micron Technology share on Robinhood Chain. The rapid gains reflect strong speculative interest in Robinhood ecosystem assets, but MOO’s price may be driven more by market sentiment, liquidity and headline momentum than fundamental value. Traders should check volume, spreads and available liquidity before entering, as sharp meme coin rallies can reverse quickly.

Metaplanet Faces 319M-Share Option and Governance Dispute

Metaplanet CEO Simon Gerovich admitted that the Bitcoin treasury company had not clearly explained its Series 10 stock-option plan or his relationship with major shareholder MMXX Ventures. The dispute centers on an option pool fixed at 319.464 million potential shares on 18 August 2026, after an automatic mechanism that expanded the pool with Metaplanet’s share count was removed. Gerovich exercised 92,000 rights on 28 August and received 64.032 million shares, lifting his direct holdings to 79.5875 million shares. The new shares are locked up for five years until 17 August 2031, but the exercise still increases issued shares and potential dilution. Shareholders estimate that about 273 million additional potential shares accumulated after Metaplanet began its Bitcoin treasury strategy in April 2024. The company has not confirmed the calculation or agreed to cancel the shares. Gerovich said he is a significant but non-majority shareholder in MMXX’s parent company and denied directing its investment or trading decisions. However, Metaplanet has not provided a complete beneficial-ownership breakdown or detailed information about historical proceeds, including MMXX’s sale of roughly 50 million shares during the 2024 rally and fundraising period. Investors are also watching a proposed long-term incentive vehicle and further vesting planned for February 2027. Metaplanet shares have underperformed Bitcoin and Japan’s Nikkei 225, falling 7% in one session, 43% year to date and 85% from their June 2025 peak. For traders, the Metaplanet dispute highlights dilution, executive-compensation and corporate-governance risks. It could increase volatility and pressure the company’s premium to Bitcoin, while its direct effect on Bitcoin prices is likely limited because Metaplanet’s Bitcoin holdings are unchanged.

Japan Wage Growth Raises BOJ Rate-Hike Risks for Bitcoin

Japan wage growth accelerated in July, with nominal wages rising 4.7% year on year, the fastest increase since January 1997 and above the 3.8% economist forecast. Real wages rose 2.4%, marking a seventh consecutive monthly gain and the strongest increase since May 2021. Base pay increased 4.1%, while bonuses and special payments rose 6.3%. The data suggests that stronger household incomes are being supported by sustained wage growth rather than one-off payments. Consumer inflation was 2.2%, meaning real earnings continued to outpace price growth. The stronger Japan wage growth data has reinforced expectations that the Bank of Japan could raise its policy rate at its 17–18 September meeting. The BOJ currently holds its rate at 1%, while markets are pricing about 75 basis points of cumulative tightening through April 2027. A weaker yen, persistent inflation and a tight labour market may support further monetary-policy normalisation. For Bitcoin traders, the main risk is a reversal of the yen carry trade. Higher Japanese interest rates and a stronger yen could increase borrowing costs and encourage investors to reduce leveraged positions in global risk assets. Bitcoin may react quickly because it trades around the clock. The August 2024 sell-off showed that yen carry-trade unwinding can amplify Bitcoin volatility. Because the potential rate hike is widely anticipated, however, the immediate market reaction may be less severe than after an unexpected policy shift.

Bitcoin Holds Near $79K as ETF Inflows Meet Fed Rate Risks

Bitcoin traded near $79,000 after briefly reaching about $81,400, remaining in a $78,000–$82,000 range ahead of the Federal Reserve’s September decision. The latest data show Bitcoin down 0.8% over 24 hours, with CoinEx analysts identifying support at $78,000–$79,000 and resistance near $82,000. Bitcoin needs to reclaim $80,500 before challenging the range high. US spot Bitcoin ETFs recorded $730.9 million in one-day net inflows on Thursday, their strongest daily result since 14 January. Weekly inflows reached $986.9 million in the week ending 4 September, while three-week inflows totalled about $3.8 billion. August inflows were approximately $3.52 billion, and total ETF assets exceeded $103 billion, representing more than 6% of Bitcoin’s market capitalisation. BlackRock’s IBIT led Thursday’s inflows with about $454 million, followed by ARK 21Shares and Fidelity. Institutional ETF demand and Treasury buyback plans have supported Bitcoin and revived the debasement trade in scarce assets. However, stronger US jobs data and rising expectations of a possible 25-basis-point Fed rate increase have lifted Treasury yields and could strengthen the dollar. Hot Producer Price Index data on 10 September or Consumer Price Index data on 11 September may increase pressure on Bitcoin. The Federal Open Market Committee decision is due on 16 September. Traders should monitor Bitcoin ETF flows, Treasury yields, spot-market demand and futures open interest. A sustained move above $82,000 could signal stronger bullish momentum and open a path towards $90,000. A break below $78,000 could expose the $77,200 area and, potentially, the mid-$70,000s. Continued ETF inflows during sideways or weaker price action would provide stronger evidence of long-term institutional accumulation.

Bitcoin AI Security Risks Remain Unlikely to Trigger a Crash

Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin rejected the claim that artificial intelligence could halve Bitcoin’s value within two years by breaking its cryptography, SHA-256 hashing or proof-of-work security. He said the probability of a direct cryptographic breakthrough is “tiny”. Buterin identified a more realistic risk in Bitcoin security: the time and coordination needed to deploy upgrades after a network-layer attack. He argued that client software and mining-pool updates should address such threats without requiring broad social consensus. Following the discussion, investor and commentator Liron Shapira cut his estimated probability of a 50% Bitcoin crash within two years from 50% to 40%. Recent incidents continue to highlight AI cybersecurity concerns. Bitcoin swap service Boltz suspended operations after AI-assisted attacks. A security campaign reportedly found 4,962 issues across 390 Bitcoin-related open-source projects, including 85 critical and 635 high-severity vulnerabilities. Investigators also linked North Korea’s Kimsuky group to preparations for AI-assisted malware development and automated attacks. For Bitcoin traders, the news is primarily a long-term security and governance issue, not an immediate price catalyst. Bitcoin remains exposed to upgrade delays, software vulnerabilities and decentralized coordination risks, but the reduced probability of an AI-driven collapse may limit extreme bearish sentiment.

Harmony Shutdown Moves ONE to Ethereum Amid Security Risks

Harmony has proposed a Harmony shutdown of its independent Layer 1 blockchain and a 1:1 migration of ONE to Ethereum as an ERC-20 token. A final-block snapshot would determine allocations for wallet balances, exchange holdings, staking delegations and validator rewards, with ordinary holders expected to receive tokens without a manual claim. The plan remains non-binding. Harmony has not set the final block or permanent shutdown date, and says the token supply and emission schedule would remain unchanged. Multisignature wallets, liquidity pools and other smart-contract positions cannot migrate automatically. Users are being urged to withdraw affected assets before 10 September 2026. The proposal follows repeated security failures, including the 2022 Horizon Bridge theft and a recent August exploit. The two reports cite materially different figures: one describes about 3.01 trillion forged ONE across six transactions, while the later report alleges nearly 4 billion unauthorised tokens, or about 26% of total supply. Harmony also cited risks from state-sponsored attackers and AI agents. It has allocated $1.372 million for eligible validators and delegators that shut down nodes on schedule and remain network governors. Some validators could support a proposed AI-focused economy involving GPU operators and creators. For ONE traders, the Harmony shutdown creates risks of selling pressure, liquidity disruption, migration losses and uncertainty over token distribution. It could also strengthen Ethereum’s role as a settlement network for smaller chains. At the time of the later report, ETH traded near $2,508, with support around the low-$2,400s and resistance near $2,534. A break above resistance could target $2,700, while a fall below $2,400 would weaken its higher-low structure.

Term Labs Governance Exploit Drains $8.5M

Term Labs suffered an $8.5 million governance exploit on 23 August 2026, exposing a major DeFi security risk. The attacker used about 0.5 ETH to wrap vault shares and control roughly 90.7% of active voting power in the ETH Meta Vault. A second wallet held all active voting power for proposals targeting five USDC vaults. The Term Labs governance exploit did not rely on a core smart-contract bug or stolen private key. Instead, the attacker exploited thin voting participation and low governance-token liquidity. A malicious proposal disguised as a routine vault-parameter veto contained 17 actions. It reset the Zodiac Delay module’s roughly seven-day cooldown, transferred execution control to an attacker-controlled address and redirected vault assets to a malicious exit strategy. After the voting period ended, the attacker drained 2,841.74 WETH from the ETH vault and removed about 1.68 million USDC from five USDC vaults. The USDC was exchanged for DAI, while some assets were later converted to ETH and sent through Tornado Cash. Security firms PeckShield and CertiK confirmed the incident and linked the activity to address 0xD518…C13. Term Labs permanently shut down Meta Vault deposits, revoked DAO governance roles and kept withdrawals open for existing users. The incident was the fifth governance attack reported in 2026, bringing governance-related losses to about $25.1 million. Traders should monitor ETH selling pressure, affected wallets, liquidity conditions and governance safeguards across similar DeFi protocols. The case may weigh on governance-focused DeFi sentiment unless protocols adopt stronger quorum rules, multisig controls, conviction voting and enforceable time locks.

Foxconn August Sales Surge 52% on AI Server Demand

Foxconn August sales reached NT$921.77 billion (US$29.14 billion), up 51.98% year on year. It was the company’s strongest August on record and its second-highest monthly result, behind July’s NT$946.51 billion. Foxconn August sales for the first eight months of 2026 reached a record NT$6.51 trillion, an annual increase of 39.73%. AI servers, rather than iPhone assembly, are driving much of the growth. Cloud and networking revenue rose sharply as cloud-service providers increased capital spending and demand for AI server racks accelerated. Foxconn previously reported second-quarter revenue of NT$2.53 trillion, up 41% year on year, while net profit increased 35% to about NT$60 billion. Server-related products accounted for more than half of quarterly revenue. Foxconn expects high-double-digit quarterly and annual growth in cloud and networking revenue during the July-September period. It is expanding AI server production across Taiwan, Mexico, Vietnam and the United States. However, Morgan Stanley expects Foxconn’s share of the high-end AI rack market to decline from about 51% in 2025 to 39% in 2026, highlighting future competition. For crypto traders, Foxconn August sales offer a positive signal for AI infrastructure, semiconductor supply chains and data-centre hardware. The update may support technology-sector sentiment, but it is not a direct forecast for cryptocurrency prices.

Stablecoin Demand May Pressure Local Currencies

A Bank of Korea study found that stablecoin demand can pressure local currencies when exchanges offer direct fiat-to-USD stablecoin trading pairs. The research shows that market infrastructure, rather than stablecoin adoption alone, determines whether demand remains a crypto-market premium or becomes foreign-exchange pressure. After direct fiat pairs were introduced, stablecoin premia fell by about 0.33 to 0.38 percentage points as arbitrage and liquidity improved. However, market makers selling stablecoins for local currency may later sell that currency and buy dollars to hedge, creating depreciation pressure. South Korea’s won showed no statistically significant exchange-rate impact during the study period because Binance lacked a direct won-to-USD stablecoin pair. Korean demand instead appeared mainly through higher stablecoin premia. A separate Bank for International Settlements study found that a 1% increase in net stablecoin inflows was linked to roughly 40 basis points of greater stablecoin-FX parity deviation and about 5 basis points of local-currency depreciation. More than 70% of cumulative net inflows from 2021 to 2025 came from non-USD currencies. For crypto traders, fiat on-ramps, exchange access, stablecoin liquidity and regional premiums are key indicators. Direct trading pairs may reduce price gaps while increasing links between stablecoin flows, foreign exchange markets and emerging-market volatility. The findings do not show that stablecoins always weaken national currencies, but they point to rising regulatory and FX risks as adoption expands.

ZEC Rally Drives $25.7M Hyperliquid Whale Loss

ZEC surged from about $400 to above $1,200, leaving a major Hyperliquid short position with an estimated $25.7 million in unrealised losses. Blockchain analyst Ember linked the wallet to the alleged Garrett Jin whale entity, although public data cannot independently confirm its owner. The trader shorted 32,760 ZEC at an average price of about $444 in early July, and the position remains open. The wallet also held an estimated $107 million Bitcoin long, with about $4.42 million in unrealised gains. However, roughly $2.05 million in Bitcoin funding fees reduced the hedge’s effective return and did not offset the ZEC loss. The ZEC rally has been supported by renewed privacy-coin demand, spot buying, derivatives activity and short liquidations. Grayscale’s conversion of its Zcash Trust into the ZCSH exchange-traded fund, which began trading on NYSE Arca on 25 August, may also have increased institutional interest. Reports of possible positioning by major Bitcoin mining pools and interest from digital-asset firms added to the speculation. ZEC briefly surpassed Dogecoin in market capitalisation. Traders should monitor whether ZEC can hold above $1,200, alongside open interest, funding rates, spot volume, collateral and liquidation levels. Further short covering could extend the rally, while a reversal could trigger rapid deleveraging and narrow the whale’s unrealised loss.

ZCAT Surges to $180M Market Cap, Then Pulls Back

Solana-based meme coin ZCAT briefly exceeded a $180 million market capitalisation, setting a new all-time high, according to GMGN data. Its market cap later fell to about $137 million, while the token remained up more than 130% over 24 hours. ZCAT has also previously traded near a $119 million valuation, highlighting the speed of its price expansion. Built around the Zcash privacy narrative, ZCAT features an anonymous cat wearing a paper bag. Its main appeal is a model that distributes trading-generated returns to holders in ZEC, promoting a “hold a meme coin and earn ZEC” narrative. Crypto influencer Ansem has mentioned ZCAT several times on X. The sharp rally shows strong short-term momentum and speculative demand for Solana meme coins, but the subsequent pullback highlights elevated volatility, liquidity and profit-taking risks. Traders should track ZCAT trading volume, holder concentration and selling pressure rather than relying solely on its market-cap surge.

Robinhood Chain Fees Expose Ethereum L2 Value-Capture Debate

Robinhood Chain fees have intensified debate over blockchain value capture and Ethereum Layer 2 economics. The Arbitrum Orbit-based application chain, launched for tokenised US stocks and perpetual contracts, reportedly saw average gas fees reach about $0.40 in early September 2026. A $200 token trade could cost users roughly $21 after taxes and fees. The dispute contrasts Solana’s low-cost, high-throughput model with Arbitrum Orbit’s application-chain design. Solana co-founder Anatoly Yakovenko argued that Robinhood Chain could have offered near-zero fees on Solana. Offchain Labs co-founder Steven Goldfeder said Robinhood selected Arbitrum to operate its own sequencer and retain most transaction revenue. Robinhood Chain reportedly keeps about 90% of user gas revenue, while roughly 10% goes to the Arbitrum ecosystem. Ethereum receives only a very small share for data availability and settlement, sometimes slightly above 0.01%. The model gives Robinhood a clearer infrastructure revenue stream but can leave users with higher costs. The debate also highlights Ethereum’s value-capture challenge. Layer 2 networks and application chains can scale activity while retaining much of the execution revenue, leaving Ethereum primarily as a settlement and data-availability layer. Ethereum is relying on long-term blob demand and wider Layer 2 adoption to support its economics. For traders, Robinhood Chain is not an immediate directional catalyst for ETH, SOL or ARB. Its fees, user activity and adoption could nevertheless influence sentiment around Ethereum Layer 2s, application chains and token value capture. The key long-term question is whether Robinhood Chain can balance sustainable revenue with affordable fees and genuine network growth.

PBOC Injects 500M Yuan as China Liquidity Remains Ample

The People’s Bank of China (PBOC) injected 500 million yuan, worth about $69 million, through seven-day reverse repos at a fixed 1.40% rate. The small PBOC operation is viewed as routine China liquidity management rather than a shift towards monetary easing. The seven-day reverse repo rate remains unchanged and continues to serve as a key short-term monetary policy signal. Traders should assess the operation against maturing facilities, as larger maturities could result in a net liquidity withdrawal despite the headline injection. The PBOC previously introduced overnight reverse repos at an initial 1.25% rate to manage temporary funding pressures more flexibly. For crypto traders, the PBOC operation is broadly neutral. Ample interbank liquidity and stable rates do not provide a strong China-driven catalyst for Bitcoin or other risk assets. Short-term trading will depend more on the maturity calendar, money-market rates, the yuan, Federal Reserve policy, the US dollar and global risk sentiment. China’s weak property market and subdued consumer spending remain longer-term risks.
